Replacement roof lantern. The original was poorly put together that the missing 3meter glass actually fell through! 😮Luckily no one was underneath!!! Replaced with an aluminium roof lantern

Replacement double glazed unit replaced this morning for this returning customer 😁 With no tell tale signs of impact we assume this is because of a term called nickel sulphide inclusion. A nickel sulfide inclusion is a tiny microscopic particle that can get trapped inside toughened (tempered) safety glass during its manufacturing process. What Causes It Contamination: Trace amounts of nickel (such as from stainless steel tools, dust, or scrap metal) mix with sulfur during the melting phase of making float glass. Phase Change: During the high-heat tempering process, the nickel sulfide particle changes into a compact state. Rapid Cooling: The glass is cooled very fast, freezing the particle before it can return to its normal low-temperature size. Why It Breaks Glass. Slow Expansion: Over months or years, the trapped particle slowly grows back to its original low-temperature size. High Stress: If the particle sits in the middle tension zone of the glass, the slow expansion builds up extreme internal pressure. Spontaneous Shattering: The pane can suddenly shatter into tiny pieces with no warning and no external impact.
