Pomme d’Or means “golden apple” in French — and it’s a name close to my heart. It was the name of my grandparents’ greengrocer shop in Woodford Green, London, where I was born. I started Pomme d’Or Gift Ideas over 10 years ago with handmade bath bombs, and from Autumn 2025 I’ll be also focusing on my hand-embellished reusable gift bags. Each one is decorated with care — from sparkling appliqués to

detachable bows and keepsake tags — designed to be reused, repurposed, and loved again. For me, gifting should always be thoughtful, sustainable, and beautiful to the core. 💛

Meet Margot 🌸

Every now and then I find an embellishment and know almost immediately what I want to do with it. These beautiful pink embroidered flowers were one of those finds.

There was, admittedly, a little “hold on, let me overthink this” along the way which resulted in the addition of some pretty pink glass beads in varying sizes. On this occasion, I think the overthinking paid off 🤭

Margot is soft, feminine and just a little bit romantic, with her flowers trailing across a wonderfully sturdy natural jute bag - perfect for special gifting.

She’s just been added to the Pomme d’Or collection and is now available on the website. 🌸

There’s been quite a lot of experimenting going on in the Pomme d’Or studio lately!
I’ve been rediscovering some old skills, learning plenty of new ones and, occasionally, wondering quite what I’ve got myself into. 😅

… and when I say ‘studio’, I should perhaps add a little disclaimer. I really do have one - my converted garage. At the moment though it’s still partly occupied by the legacy of the Pomme d’Or bath bomb days 😅. Until I finally finish clearing it, quite a lot of the actual creating still happens at my kitchen table, but one day I hope to give the 60 second tour of what will become my own little sewing den.

The Gaia backpack has been a big part of experimenting. Starting with a simple denim backpack, I took it apart and completely reworked it by adding embroidery, interfacing for better structure, new lining, zips, pockets and lots of little details along the way. She’s very much a prototype rather than a bag for sale, but working on her taught me an enormous amount and has given me plenty of ideas about where I’d like to go next.

💕 Out and about!

I was so pleased to receive this lovely photo of my denim bag ‘Rosie’ being enjoyed out and about, and even more pleased to be given permission to share it with you.

I spend so much time with each bag while I’m working on it that it’s always lovely to see one later, being carried and enjoyed as part of someone else’s day.

Rosie is one of my denim wrap bags, embellished with pretty floral lace and lots of little details added along the way. And I have to say, I think she looks rather fabulous here!

🪡 Behind the Stitching

Summer has a funny way of slowing everything down.

I’ve been making the most of some beautiful weather while quietly working behind the scenes on new ideas. Sometimes creativity needs a little breathing space before it turns into something beautiful!

One of the ideas I brought home from France was inspired by market days in the little towns we visited. Seeing everyone walking towards the centre ville with their market bags, then returning with fresh fruit, vegetables, artisan cheeses and, of course, the obligatory baguette or two peeping out of the top, made quite an impression on me.

Back at my kitchen table, that memory has become this little project.

I’ve taken a simple jute shopping bag and hand-finished it with a colourful sequin chilli appliqué, carefully stitched into place and embellished with a few extra sparkles. To complete the design, I’ve added a fun little chilli-shaped coin purse that I sourced especially for it.

The purse isn’t just there to look pretty. It clips neatly onto the inside of the bag so it’s always within easy reach - perfect for keeping a few coins handy for those little market purchases where paying with cash is still very much appreciated.

It’s still a work in progress, but I thought I’d share a little glimpse of one of the projects which has been keeping me busy behind the scenes.

I’m nearly at the end of the most glorious, relaxing holiday. This is definitely me standing in front of a field of sunflowers, not superimposed or edited! 😂 What you may not be able to see is that almost every sunflower has at least one busy bee, and I’m trying not to disturb them whilst being selfish enough to grab my photo opportunity. 🤭

There are seas of sunflowers in this part of south-west France, all turning their beautiful faces towards the sun, then dipping them ever so slightly, almost forlornly, as evening falls until the morning sunshine cheers them up again.

It’s been wonderfully relaxing and hugely inspiring too. I’ve stocked up on fabrics, lace trims and all sorts of embellishments, so my suitcase is a little fuller than when I arrived 😅. I can’t wait to start turning those ideas into new Pomme d’Or designs. Je suis très inspirée ! 🇫🇷🌻

I’m now pressing pause on Pomme d’Or for a couple of weeks while I take a little holiday. The shop will reopen on Monday 6th July.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that inspiration has a habit of turning up when you least expect it! A change of scenery, beautiful surroundings, local culture, interesting colours and textures, and a little more time to simply look around, often spark new ideas.

Whilst there won’t be any orders heading out, I never seem to switch off completely when it comes to creative ideas, so I’m sure I’ll return home with plenty of inspiration for future Pomme d’Or creations.

Thank you so much for supporting my little business. I’ll be back on 6th July, hopefully refreshed, recharged and full of new ideas.

With a such a burst of unseasonal sunshine in May, my mind took one of its all-too-frequent leave-of-absences and wandered off to citrus groves, long sunny days and Mediterranean sunshine.

The inspiration that returned was Luca: an embellished bottle bag, decorative glass bottle, recipe leaflet and bottle tags, all brought together into one gift-ready kit.

The leaflet includes recipes for a traditional sweet lemon liqueur, a sugar-free alcohol infusion and a non-alcoholic lemon syrup, so the recipient can choose their own path.

I’ve called this kit Luca - sunshine, citrus groves and a touch of Mediterranean charm.

I’ve always loved blue, but I’d never really given much thought to turquoise until my cousin wore a beautiful turquoise dress to a “gathering of the clan” weekend - it looked so fresh and uplifting.
