Oh Belinda! This is not what I want to see in your pre-release poo sample 😭

That tiny little circle at the end of the pointer… it’s easy to miss… but it’s a coccidia oocyst 😔 It’s EXTREMELY contagious to other hedgehogs, and with 32 other hedgehogs in the rescue right now, I’m very glad I’ve caught it early (this hedgehog’s previous poo sample was five days ago and didn’t have oocysts in). I’m also very grateful that we have our wonderful Plaztek hutches to make decontamination much easier 🙏

I check poo samples on admission, before release, and at various points during their care depending on their care plan. THIS shows why I spend so much time looking at hedgehog p**p 🦔💩 💜

Damn and blast! The little girl hoglet is off her food, hasn't eaten or drank today so has needed fluids and a syringe feed. Am now peering down a microscope looking for culprits; her poo is definitely off. This is her just after her fluids and some of her sloppy fave food syringe fed! Her brother is fine, but she has lost 15g in one day 🙏🦔. Will keep you all posted Graham Lynch, sorry x
