Ever wondered what a £500,000–£750,000 home cinema looks like? 👀🍿

Today I was at Habitech for Lutron RA3 training, getting hands-on with the latest in residential lighting control.

While I was there, I also got the chance to experience this incredible demonstration cinema.

And this isn’t simply a projector, some speakers and a few nice seats. A cinema at this level is a £500k–£750k installation, with the entire room designed as one complete system. Acoustics, audio, projection, lighting, control, seating and interior finishes all engineered to work together.

The photos really don’t do it justice. The scale and, particularly, the sound have to be experienced in person.

A great day getting deeper into Lutron RA3, with the added bonus of seeing what’s possible at the very top end of residential AV and home automation.

Thanks to the team at Habitech for the training and hospitality.

Not every upgrade is a complete rack build. Sometimes it’s about making sure a system is ready for what’s next.

This rack needed an additional network switch to support new devices while keeping everything neat, reliable and easy to service. The new switch was installed, integrated into the existing network and mounted to match the rest of the rack for a clean, factory finished look.

It’s the little details that make the biggest difference when it comes to professional installations.

Would your network cope with adding more devices, or is it already at its limit?

🔧 When was the last time your AV or home automation rack had a health check?

Most people service their boiler every year, but their home automation system is often forgotten until something stops working.

Regular maintenance keeps your system running reliably and helps prevent costly faults before they happen.

Our periodic maintenance visits include:
✅ Checking network performance and equipment health
✅ Installing firmware and security updates
✅ Testing backup power (UPS) systems
✅ Inspecting cabling and connections
✅ Cleaning filters, fans and equipment to prevent overheating
✅ Verifying remote access and system backups
✅ Identifying potential issues before they become failures

A well-maintained rack not only performs better but also extends the life of your equipment, improves reliability and ensures your smart home continues to work exactly as it should.

Whether it’s Control4, networking, CCTV, audio distribution or AV equipment, a little preventative maintenance goes a long way.

If your system hasn’t been checked in the last 12 months, it may be time to book a service.

📞 Get in touch with GEL Automation to arrange a periodic maintenance visit and keep your system performing at its best.

After being on the go all day, in this heat, wearing a full black uniform… I think I know exactly where her priorities were! ☀️🥵

No hello. No stopping. Straight through the house, into the garden, and into the pool. 😂

Thankfully, our smart cameras caught the whole thing!

Joking aside, CCTV isn’t just there for security. It’s great for keeping an eye on your home, checking deliveries, seeing who’s arrived, and sometimes capturing those funny everyday moments you’ll look back on.

At Gifford’s Electrical, through GEL Automation, we install intelligent CCTV and smart home systems that give you complete peace of mind, while occasionally providing a bit of family entertainment too.

To be fair… after the day she’d had, she’d earned that swim. 💙

Little Easter Sunday project for my eldest 🐣

He’s had this IKEA head light for years and kept asking if he could control it from his phone or through the Control4 system… so we made it happen.

Added a Shelly Plus RGBW PM and bypassed the original PCB, turning it into a fully smart RGB light.

Now it can be controlled via Control4, his phone, or locally using the original button, which now handles on/off, colour changes, smooth dimming, and even a night mode, none of which it had before.

Set up a few simple scenes as well, so he can switch between them from the wall keypad or his Halo remote.

Safe to say he’s pretty happy with the result 👍

Out with the standard roller. In with something that actually fits the space properly.

This window has been upgraded to a made-to-measure pocket blind from QMotion, finished cleanly within the recess for a true blackout result. No side light bleed. No visible brackets. Just a sharp, tailored look.

But the real difference?
It’s fully integrated with Control4.

The blind can now be:

• Controlled from a keypad
• Adjusted in the Control4 app
• Automated with schedules
• Linked to lighting scenes
• Set to close automatically at night

So it’s not just about looks. It’s about performance and convenience.

Press “Goodnight” and the lights fade, the blind drops, and the room is ready. No manual chains. No reaching over furniture.

This is what happens when window treatments are considered as part of the wider smart home system, not added as an afterthought.

Clean install. Proper blackout. Fully automated.
