☀️ How long do solar panels actually last?

Longer than most people think. Most panels are built to last 25 to 30 years, losing only 0.5 to 0.8% of their output each year. After 25 years, they're typically still producing 80 to 90% of what they did on day one.

That's decades of reliable performance from a single installation.

📈 Ofgem's energy price cap is rising again.

From 1 October 2026, the typical annual bill goes from £1,663 to £1,723, an extra £60 a year. Wholesale energy costs have also jumped 11% in just three months.

You can't control the wholesale market, but you can look at how much electricity your home needs to buy from it.

🔋 Could the next generation of batteries breathe?

CATL is exploring lithium-air technology, an emerging battery chemistry that uses oxygen from the surrounding air as part of the battery reaction.

While the technology remains at the research stage, its potential to enable lighter batteries with greater energy density offers an exciting glimpse into the future of energy storage.

At Simcott Renewables, we keep a close eye on the innovations shaping tomorrow’s energy while delivering proven solar and battery solutions today.

🔋 Already have solar panels? Put more of the energy you generate to work.

Without battery storage, surplus solar electricity is often exported during the day. A home battery can store that energy and make it available later, when your household needs it most.

The right system can help you increase self-consumption, reduce grid imports and get more value from your existing solar panels.

☀️ One certified renewable installation every 74 seconds.

The UK recorded 210,000 certified renewable installations during the first half of 2026, including almost 150,000 solar installations.

More homeowners are moving beyond simply considering renewable energy and choosing to generate, store and use more of their own electricity.

What are homeowners seeing after making the switch?

🏘️ Not every project starts from scratch.

At Merstham Community Hub in Surrey, we were brought in to fix a solar system that had failed, poorly positioned, vulnerable to vandalism, and impossible to monitor remotely.

We redesigned it from the ground up: repositioned panels, upgraded the inverter, and added independent 4G monitoring so performance could be tracked reliably.

The result: over 9,000 kWh estimated annual generation, around £2,500 in annual savings, and payback in just over five years.

A great example of what's possible when a system is designed properly around the realities of a site.

☀️ Are solar panels actually worth it for homes in Essex?

Energy bills have stayed a real concern for UK households, and more homeowners are asking whether solar panels are worth the investment. For most Essex properties, the answer is yes.
Essex benefits from some of the highest levels of solar irradiance in the UK, meaning a well-positioned system can generate strong returns.

Costs, savings, and payback periods vary by property, but most homes see payback within seven to twelve years, with panels continuing to generate savings for 25 years or more.

We've broken down real costs, what affects performance, and how to know if your home is a good fit.
