One of our customers, Tom in Stockport, asked us to come back and look after he started having problems with the EV charger we had fitted a few months earlier. We had originally advised him to keep the cable clean and dry, check it for damage and avoid leaving it tightly wrapped or lying on the ground. 🪛

But over time the cable had been left outside in wet conditions and had started to show signs of wear. We checked the charger, cleaned the connections and replaced the damaged cable before testing everything again. Tom's' experience showed him why regular checks and simple care can make a big difference to how reliable an EV charger is.

Learn how to maintain your EV charger effectively. Regular checks and proper care ensure dependable charging and extend the lifespan of your device in the UK.

We got a call from Rachel in Manchester after she noticed a strong burning smell coming from a socket and part of the house suddenly lost power. She called us straight away, and when we arrived, we found damaged wiring behind it that was starting to overheat. We isolated the faulty circuit, replaced the damaged parts and tested the system before restoring the power safely. 🪛

Luckily, Rachel called early because the fault was dealt with before it caused more serious damage. This is why we always advise calling an emergency electrician if you notice burning smells, sparks, repeated power cuts or unusually hot sockets and switches.

Wondering when should you call an emergency electrician? Learn when electrical faults need urgent expert attention to keep your home safe and avoid serious risks.

We recently worked with Sarah in Liverpool, who wanted to get more value from her solar panels. She was already generating plenty of power during the day but using more electricity in the evening, when the panels were producing less. We recommended adding battery storage so she could save some unused daytime energy and use it later when she needed it most. 🙌

After the battery was installed, Sarah could use more of her own generated electricity instead of sending as much back to the grid. It meant she didn't need as much electricity from the grid in the evening. For her, combining solar panels with battery storage made the whole system much more useful.

Learn how Solar Panels and Battery Storage Explained can maximise renewable energy use. Cut costs and boost sustainability for your UK home or business.

We recently worked with Steven in Wigan, who got in touch because he wanted to know how many solar panels would be right for his home. He wanted to lower his electricity bills, but not install more panels than he actually needed. We looked at how much electricity he used, the size of his roof and which way it faced. After checking everything, we recommended 10 solar panels as a good fit for his home. 👈

Once the system was installed, Steven could start using more of the electricity his home was generating during the day, which meant buying less from the grid. His experience shows why the number of solar panels a home needs can vary. It really depends on things like how much electricity you use, how much roof space you have and the direction your roof faces. That is why we always look at the home first before suggesting the right setup.

A recent project we installed was a 12-panel solar system for Paul in Bolton, and one of his main questions was how long the panels would last and whether the investment would pay off over time. 🪙🫰

We explained that good-quality solar panels can keep working for around 25 to 30 years, but made him aware their output can slowly reduce as they age. Based on Paul saving around £700 a year on his electricity bills, he could save roughly £17,500 over 25 years, and potentially more if electricity prices rise.

The biggest benefit for him was knowing the system could keep cutting his energy costs for decades after the installation was complete.

Last year, we fitted a 6-panel solar system for Emma in Wigan, and one of her main questions was whether the panels would still work on cloudy days. We explained that solar panels can still produce electricity when the sky is overcast, although they usually generate less than they would in bright sunshine.

We recently caught up with Emma to find out about the results. She told us it was still producing power on dull days, which helped cover part of her daytime electricity use. Our follow up call confirmed that the system could keep generating throughout the year, not just on clear summer days. ⛅️

Our team installed a 10-panel solar system for Daniel in Wigan at a total cost of around £6,500, including the panels, inverter and installation. Before fitting the system, Daniel was spending roughly £1,400 a year on electricity, so reducing his bills was a big reason for going solar.

https://www.wiganelectrician.uk/are-solar-panels-worth-the-cost

After the installation, he was able to use more of the electricity his panels produced during the day, bringing his annual electricity costs down by around £600. Over five years, that works out at roughly £3,000 in savings, although the exact amount can change with electricity prices and how much solar power is used at home. For Daniel, seeing those yearly savings made the initial cost feel like a worthwhile long-term investment.

Solar panels can reduce electricity bills, protect households from future price rises and lower carbon emissions. This article explores: Are Solar Panels Worth the Cost?

We recently helped Mark in Wigan, who wanted solar panels but was not sure what size system would suit his home. After checking his roof space, the direction it faced and his usual electricity use, we recommended a 10-panel system.

We positioned the panels across the clearest section of the roof to avoid shaded areas and connected them to an inverter so the electricity they produced could be used around the home. Mark liked having a setup that was based on his actual needs rather than simply fitting as many panels as possible, and the finished system gave him a practical way to generate more of his own electricity each day.
