When you’re trying to get on with a door repair, but you’ve got a little supervisor watching your every move! 😂

Not sure whether he was checking my workmanship or just curious to see what I was up to! 🐾

Such a friendly little chap, happily standing there watching me work.

One of the perks of being a locksmith is meeting some lovely four-legged customers along the way!

Another British Standard lock fitted in Canterbury!

This one was a fresh installation of a Union 5-lever British Standard deadlock, rather than simply replacing an existing lock.

A little more work involved, as I had to prepare the wooden door to accommodate the new lock and make sure everything fitted and operated correctly.

I also cut additional keys on-site, so the customer had everything they needed before I left. 🔑

If you’re looking to upgrade your locks or have an additional deadlock fitted, feel free to get in touch.

Not a bad view from my customer’s home in Folkestone! 🌊☀️

One of the perks of being a locksmith and travelling around East Kent is getting to work in some lovely locations.

Another lock upgrade in Whitstable!

This customer needed their existing lock upgraded, so I supplied and fitted a new 5-lever British Standard deadlock.

Not all locks offer the same level of security, and having the right locks fitted can also be important for your home insurance.

A simple upgrade that makes a big difference to your home security.

If you’re unsure whether your locks meet British Standard, feel free to get in touch.

A sign your gearbox/mechanism could be broken 👇🔐

This was a job in Whitstable.

A simple way to spot a problem is when the door is open and you push the handle down, but the catches and hooks don’t fully retract in and out.

That’s a good indication that the gearbox/mechanism has failed and needs replacing.

And unfortunately, no amount of WD-40 or other lubricants is going to fix it! 😅 If the mechanism has broken internally, lubrication won’t solve the problem.

If your uPVC door handle isn’t operating as it should, don’t keep forcing it, get it checked before you end up unable to lock or open the door.

When parts become obsolete, sometimes a retrofit is the only option.

On this job, the existing main door mechanism had failed and the original parts were no longer available.

I supplied and retrofitted a new full locking mechanism, repositioned the top and bottom keeps, adjusted the timber where required and fitted a new thumb-turn cylinder.

If you have a uPVC or composite door that is becoming difficult to lock, it’s best to get it looked at sooner rather than later. Get it fixed before it gets worse.

And if your part is discontinued, then we’ll find an alternative.

Moving into a new home? 🏠🔐

One of the first things I’d recommend doing is changing the locks and getting a fresh set of keys.

You never really know how many copies of the old keys are still out there- previous owners, tenants, cleaners, tradespeople, family members… the list can go on.

A simple lock change gives you that extra peace of mind knowing exactly who has access to your home.

If you’ve just moved and want your locks changed, feel free to get in touch.

A little look at some of my recent jobs 🔐

From older locks that had definitely seen better days… to security upgrades and full door repairs.

Recently I’ve been:

• replacing an old lock with a 5 lever British Standard deadlock
• fitting an APECS 1-star euro cylinder in Whitstable
• replacing a failed gearbox/mechanism
• sorting worn springs in a door handle
• getting a faulty door working smoothly again

and coming across one very, very old lock in Canterbury 😂

By the end of one of the visits, the door was working so well it felt like a brand new door.

A good reminder that sometimes you don’t need a new door, you just need the right repair.

From a failed mechanism… to feeling like a brand new door 🙌🔐

The gearbox/mechanism had failed and the springs in the door handle had gone, so the door really wasn’t working as it should.

I replaced the gearbox, sorted the handle issue and upgraded the lock to an APECS 1-star cylinder.

By the time I’d finished, the customer said it felt like a brand new door 👌

Sometimes you don’t need a whole new door, you just need the right repair.

Another security upgrade in Whitstable 🔐

Supplied and fitted an APECS 1-star euro cylinder for my customer in Whitstable.

A nice simple upgrade that helps improve the security of the door without needing to replace the whole locking system.

If your cylinder is old, damaged or you’re simply not sure how secure it is, it’s worth getting it checked.
