“Heat Pumps May Never Be Cheaper Than Gas Boilers”

Let’s talk about heat pumps. They’re often hailed as the ultimate solution to decarbonising heat, but let’s be honest – there are significant costs involved that many people can’t afford to ignore.

Even the Secretary of State for Energy recently admitted that transitioning to heat pumps doesn’t make sense if it leaves people worse off. And when you break it down, there are two big issues:

1. Installation Costs: Even with the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, installing a heat pump can still cost thousands more than a gas boiler.
2. Running Costs: This one’s trickier, especially for older homes that weren’t designed with heat pumps in mind.

Here’s the reality: if a heat pump isn’t properly sized, or if the radiators and pipework aren’t upgraded, it won’t work efficiently. And for older homes, you often need extra insulation to get the most out of it. Studies show that getting an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C or higher through insulation and heat pump upgrades can cost over £30,000.

Think of it this way: trying to use a heat pump in a poorly insulated home is like filling a sink without a proper plug. Sure, it works, but you’ll keep pouring more in to make up for what’s lost.

Now, I know some heat pump fans might say:

• “You’re doing it wrong!”
• “That’s not how heat pumps work!”
• “My heat pump works perfectly!”

But here’s my question to them: how much did your heat pump cost when you include insulation upgrades and everything else? Were you lucky enough to afford it? The truth is, not everyone can.

Don’t get me wrong – heat pumps are fantastic when installed correctly, especially in new builds. They work beautifully with renewable energy systems like the ones we provide.

But let’s be real: retrofitting heat pumps into older homes isn’t always the answer for everyone. It’s good to see policymakers recognising this reality, but let’s see how they actually tackle it.

🌍 What’s our “why”?

It’s simple: to make whole-home renewables affordable and accessible to the masses while removing the burden of maintenance and replacement.

💡 A 2023 Government-backed study by the University of Nottingham looked at 224 Nottingham properties and found that deep retrofitting a home with solar panels, batteries, decarbonised heating, hot water systems, and proper fabric works can cost £38,000 to £114,000.

Let’s face it – how many people have that kind of spare cash? And this isn’t the only study showing the high costs of going green!
The UK Government is trying to help, but for most people, cost is still the biggest barrier to adopting renewables.

So, what happens if you can’t afford it?
🚪 You can carry on as you were – a very "British" response.
✨ Or… you can explore new ways to bring renewables into your home without the hefty price tag.

At Robin Renewables, we’ve taken years of "as-a-Service" expertise and applied it to renewables. Our model makes renewable energy affordable, worry-free, and accessible to more people than ever before.

🔧 No upfront ownership.
⚙️ No maintenance headaches.
✅ Just clean energy, delivered as a service.

Renewable energy shouldn’t be a luxury. It should be a living standard, just like the internet.

🌱 Let’s make green living possible for everyone.

£5,000.

Remember that number – we’ll come back to it.

Thinking about switching to renewable energy but feeling overwhelmed by the cost? You’re not alone!

Here’s why it feels so daunting:

A solar and battery system can cost over £10,000 – and it won’t fully power your home.
Add decarbonised heating and hot water upgrades, and you’re looking at £20,000+.

And that’s before you even think about:
Maintenance bills to keep everything running
Repair costs when something breaks

No wonder renewable energy seems out of reach – even with government incentives.

But what if there was another way?

Back to that £5,000.

That’s all it costs to have us install:

Solar panels
Battery storage
Infrared heating
A thermal battery for hot water

And this isn’t just a basic setup. Our system is tailored to your home and delivers:

Up to 70% less reliance on the grid, thanks to a “Renewable Output Capability” of up to 12kW – plenty to power your home, heating, and hot water.

Up to 45% savings on your total energy bills – heating, hot water, and electricity included.

Here’s the Game-Changer:

You don’t own the equipment. Instead:

You pay for energy at lower rates through our system.
No maintenance costs.
No repair bills.
If something breaks? We fix it.
If a component fails? We replace it.

It’s renewable energy made simple and stress-free.

For just £5,000, you’re not just investing in renewable energy – you’re investing in peace of mind.

Our early adopters list is now open.

Here comes the snow! Well... it was just a tiny flurry overnight here, but I know in some places it was quite substantial. ❄️

And with *coughs* news reports *coughs* warning that power cuts could hit multiple areas in the UK after a 15-hour flurry that’s still on its way, here’s a question: are you ready to go off-grid? 🤔

Here’s some food for thought:

If you have solar panels only, they’ll automatically shut off in a power cut for safety reasons. Without a battery, they’re effectively useless during an outage.

If you have a battery, plan wisely. You may only be able to power a few key appliances before the inverter overloads or the battery depletes.

If you have neither... what are you waiting for?

We saw how Unified Communications (Zoom, Teams etc...) were undervalued until the pandemic. Similarly, as the UK becomes more reliant on electricity, we’re likely to face more blackouts - planned or not - because the infrastructure just can’t keep up.

I’m not saying it will affect everyone - it won’t. But waiting until demand outstrips supply could leave you quite literally in the dark. 🌘

Are you ready to take control of your energy future? 💡

11/11/2024

Fun Fact: Most "affordable" hybrid inverters on the market can’t output more than 13 to 15A of energy.

To put that into perspective, that’s roughly 3,000-3,450W of power. Sounds like a lot, right?

But once you factor in essentials like lighting, electronics, and white goods, there’s not much wiggle room. In fact, in some cases, you might struggle to boil a kettle - let alone heat a home!

I’m not saying these inverters don’t have their place - they absolutely do. Every solution has its application, and renewable energy is far from a one-size-fits-all fix.

However, when choosing what to install, it’s crucial to consider your specific needs, especially if you own an older or larger home.

What you want and what you end up with can be two very different things. Plan wisely!

Do you have an older home you’re looking to install solar on?

Why invest in solar only when you could power your ENTIRE home and SAVE up to 45% on ALL your energy costs? 🌞💸

With Robin Renewables, you get so much more than just solar power. For up to £5,000, you’ll receive a total home solution that includes:

✅ Solar Panels
✅ Battery Storage
✅ Electric Infrared Heating
✅ Electric Hot Water

We don’t just cut up to 80% of your electricity bill like most systems (Which turns out to be less than 20% of your overall spend!) we power everything including heating and hot water, reducing your total energy spend by up to 45%.

Why settle for a partial solution that in most cases won’t even boil a kettle?

Switch to a total home solution that’s ready to keep you running even if the grid goes down! 🌍✨

At Robin Renewables Ltd, every project is unique to us. We focus on what you need - not what's easiest for us.

Take this beautiful terrace development, for example. 🏡✨

It was their first time using renewables in new builds, and they wanted a balanced approach. They opted to power core functions like lights, sockets, and kitchens with renewables, while the car chargers and heat pumps stayed connected to the grid. Since these homes are rentals, it made perfect sense!

We delivered exactly what they needed.

With 8 to 10 solar panels per building (across 3 and 4 bedroom homes), inverters that work even when the grid is down, and almost 10 kWh of battery storage, their rental properties are now set up to run smoothly - no matter what’s happening outside. 🌞🔋

Were we the cheapest option?

Nope, we were actually the priciest! But we took the time to listen, engage, and make sure they understood what each option offered. It wasn't just about price - it was about value.

They loved our approach so much that they’ve now chosen us to provide fully off-grid solutions for all their future developments - new builds, retrofits, and commercial conversions. We’ll definitely take that win! 🏆
