Start to plant your spring bulbs, including narcissus, crocus and Iris. The earlier they flower the more they benefit from an early planting hold off onto tulips until it's much colder.
Don't go cutting everything back for the sake of a 'tidy garden'. Ornamental grasses and the seedheads of spent perennials are far more beautiful than bare earth and provide shelter for insects.
