This is a good example of why the preparation work underneath a finish is just as important as the finish itself.

I’ve stripped the wallpaper from this room and, unfortunately, the paint underneath has started coming away from the plaster with it.

The plaster was originally painted directly with silk, without being given a suitable mist coat first.

Fresh plaster is highly absorbent, so it needs to be treated correctly before applying a finishing paint. A properly applied mist coat penetrates into the porous plaster and creates a suitable surface for subsequent coats to adhere to.

Silk paint isn’t designed to be used directly on fresh plaster as the first coat. It forms a much less absorbent film on the surface, which means it doesn’t provide the same pe*******on and adhesion that you need on bare plaster.

It can look perfectly acceptable when first painted, which is often why these problems aren't noticed straight away. But the underlying adhesion can be poor, and once you introduce wallpaper paste, moisture and eventually the process of stripping the wallpaper, that weak layer can start to fail.

That’s exactly what has happened here.

The wallpaper itself has done nothing wrong. It has simply highlighted a problem that was already underneath it.

Now I’m left having to remove all the loose and poorly bonded paint, get the surface back to something stable and properly prepare it before I can move forward with the decorating.

This is why good decorating isn't simply about putting paint on a wall.

Understanding the surface, using the correct products and taking the time to prepare everything properly is what gives you a finish that looks good and stays looking good.

It would have been much easier to get the preparation right before the original decorating was carried out.

Unfortunately, I’m dealing with it now 😂

Another reminder that when it comes to decorating, the work you don't see is often just as important as the work you do.

Or in short... the previous decorator before me didnt have a Scooby 🤷

THE HOLIDAY IS OVER… BACK TO THE PAINT BRUSH 😂

Well that went quick! Back from holiday and straight back into it.

I’m now pretty much fully booked for the rest of the year 😳

I’ve only got the final few weeks of December left at the moment, so if you’re wanting anything decorating before Christmas, now’s the time to get in touch.

I may also open up a few weekends if there’s enough demand. Because apparently I’m incapable of saying no to work 😂

A massive thank you as always to everyone who has booked me, recommended me, shared my posts and kept me so busy. It really is appreciated.

December enquiries are now open 📩🎨

🎨 THAT’S A WRAP FOR 2 WEEKS!

After 6 weeks straight without a day off, it’s finally time to put the work to one side and enjoy some proper time away.

I’m off to my happy place with Jacob & Tor ❤️

No schedules, no rushing around, no worrying about what needs doing next, just sunshine, family, laughs and making memories that we’ll look back on for years to come. ☀️

I’ll still get back to messages when I can, but please bear with me if replies are a little slower than usual. I’m going to make the most of the time away and properly switch off.

The paint will still be there when I get back. 😂🎨

Two weeks. Family. Sunshine. Memories. ❤️🇹🇷

See you all when I’m back!

2 completion posts in one month... I'm really spoiling you all! 😅

This one was definitely a brave choice, and I know not everyone would have the confidence to go for it, but that's exactly why I love jobs like this.

Seeing a customer's vision come to life and watching it all tie together is one of the best parts of what I do.

I'm sure you'll agree the finished look is absolutely stunning. The colours work perfectly together, and yes... we just threw a pink ceiling in there like it's the most normal thing in the world. 🤷

It just goes to show that decorating doesn't have to mean playing it safe. Sometimes taking a chance with colour completely transforms a room and gives it so much more character.

It's always great when a customer is willing to think outside the box. Jobs like this are a reminder that you don't have to stick to white ceilings and neutral walls to create a beautiful space.

It's been a little while since my last project post, but I think this one was worth the wait...

Take a look at this stunning hall, stairs and landing transformation. 👌

⚫ Walls – "Joanna" from Little Greene, colour matched by Crown and finished in Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt. A beautiful, rich colour with a durable finish that's perfect for busy family homes.

🟠 Woodwork – Carefully prepared with primer and undercoat before being finished in Crown Acrylic Satin, giving a smooth, crisp finish that's built to last.

Projects like this involve far more than simply applying paint. The preparation, attention to detail and hours of work behind the scenes are what create a finish like this.

A lot of hard work went into this one, but it was an absolute pleasure from start to finish.

Thanks to my customer for trusting me with their home.

It's jobs like these that remind me why I love what I do.

You know what I absolutely love about my job in this weather?

Nothing.

The end.

Every job is different, but this video gives you a glimpse of the materials and preparation that usually go unseen.

They may not be visible in the finished result, but without them, the quality and durability of the job would be compromised.

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to all my lovely customers! ☀️🎨

Working as a painter and decorator in this heat hasn't been easy, but so many of you have looked after me by offering cold drinks, putting fans on, and making sure I'm keeping cool. It's genuinely appreciated and doesn't go unnoticed.

I'm lucky to have such thoughtful customers—it really does make the days a lot easier.

Also, I may have a random weekend slot becoming available soon. If you've been thinking about getting some decorating done, drop me a message and I'll let you know if it becomes available.

Thanks again everyone, and stay cool! 😊

Good Evening 🙂

Due to the way my holiday dates have fallen this year, I've unexpectedly got 3 days available to fill:

🟠 Saturday 8th August

⚫️ Sunday 9th August

🟠 Monday 10th August

Other than these dates, I'm now pretty much booked solid until very late November.

If you've been thinking about getting booked in, now's the chance to grab one of these last available dates before they're gone. Feel free to drop me a message to discuss availability and secure your slot.

Thanks to everyone who continues to support me – it's very much appreciated! 😊
