Definitely not a job for a ladder and a hope and a prayer!

This tree was a big one and when you’re dealing with trees of this size and height, safety has to come first. For the arborist working up in the canopy, but also for the people, property and landscape below.

Our qualified arborists use the right equipment and techniques to work safely and carefully. Our usual rope is 20m, but even that wasn’t enough for this one, so we had to step up to a 35m rope. It’s a good reminder that large tree work isn’t a DIY job. Always call in the professionals when you’re dealing with trees of this magnitude.

Got stubborn bare patches in your lawn? After such a hot, dry summer, it’s no surprise that some areas of grass have given up the ghost. But autumn is actually a great time to bring those patches back to life.

Here’s how:
• Rake away any dead grass and loosen the soil underneath.
• Add a little fresh topsoil if the area is particularly bare or compacted.
• Scatter grass seed suitable for your lawn and gently work it into the soil.
• Keep it watered while the seed gets established, especially if we get another dry spell.
• Be patient! With milder temperatures and more moisture, autumn provides ideal growing conditions for new grass.

Want to keep the colour going in your garden well into autumn? Dahlias and irises are brilliant choices for adding late summer and early autumn interest, bringing plenty of colour just when some of the garden is starting to fade.

For the best late-season blooms, plant dahlia tubers in late spring, once the risk of frost has passed. Irises are best planted in late summer, giving them time to establish before winter.

With a little forward planning, you can have colour carrying on long after summer has officially ended.

Still enjoying the fruits of our labour in late September. After such a hot summer, this greenhouse has helped us make the most of the growing season, giving plants a sheltered environment and helping to keep growing conditions more consistent.

And as the temperatures start to cool, that extra protection means we can keep harvesting for longer.There’s something rather satisfying about enjoying homegrown produce well into autumn.

We also look after vegetable gardens, and this one is a particularly lovely place to spend a sunny day, with beautiful views, raised beds and a greenhouse.
If you’re thinking about creating your own, raised beds are a great way to make a vegetable garden easier to manage, giving you more control over the soil and drainage while keeping everything neatly contained. Just make sure they’re narrow enough to reach the middle without having to step onto the soil.
And if you’re adding a greenhouse, choose a spot with plenty of light and don’t forget about ventilation. On a sunny day, temperatures can rise quickly, so good airflow is just as important as sunshine.

A productive garden, a beautiful view and a bit of sunshine… not a bad place to spend the day.
