This could’ve been so much worse…

I found this during an EICR today
A badly burnt switch and damaged wiring hidden behind the cover. It’s worrying to see damage like this in someone’s home.

I’m sharing these photos because that “funny smell” you’ve noticed could be a warning that something is wrong.

Tenants: If you notice a burning, hot plastic or unusual fishy smell around your electrics, please don’t ignore it. Stop using the affected equipment and report it to your landlord or letting agent straight away. Don’t try to open it up yourself.

Landlords: Please take these reports seriously and get an electrician out promptly. Don’t leave it until the next inspection.

An EICR is a valuable check, but problems reported between inspections need attention too.

If you suspect a fire, get out, stay out and call 999.

Please share this — it might encourage someone to report something they’ve been putting off.

We even had to put in a few 8-hour days 😳😂
