Before n afters (Crewe)😀
Tadaaaa! finally got through the last little bits yesterday so thats as far as I go on this one.
The owner is a keen gardener themsleves so will be putting in plants and decorating the concrete slab.
I will be returning in a few weeks to install a water feature so will get some updated pics then 😀 But for now Im calling this 'Job done'
So yesterday was another day of rain, constantly from 9am till I had enough around 4
Still managed to finish off last fiddly bits of paving and put in gated archway but finished the day looking and feeling like the proverbial drowned rat !
Technically today should be finishing, but there's a little bit of cementing needs doing and it's looking a bit wet out there at the moment.
Still, today could be a good day😀 🤞🏾
What a miserable day. Pretty much constant heavy rain from very first thing this morning (I'm always up at 5 and it was already raining then!).
Still went out and did what I could. managed to get all but 3 of the cuts in place and re bricked the bed around the hydrangea (wasn't happy with it so re did it)...not sure if it will take but I managed to do that bit in a 'not raining' spell and then get it covered up so
fingers crossed.🤞🏾
Finally gave up around three when I came to the conclusion that I was actually just working in water! I was that cold I couldn't stop myself from shivering and my hands had shriveled up that much they looked about 200.
On the plus side....At least we know the ACO drain and DPC protection are now keeping the water and damp out of the extension 😀
Apparently its raining again tomorrow🤦🏽
Managed to get a good crack on today and get the majority of the paving down😀 so literally just the cuts, a little bit of brickwork and a gate to put up and then a good clean up and I'm done....weather permitting😶
Today I managed to get the steps filled and laid and lay a small section of the patio before the rain got too heavy to continue.
Tomorrow 2 ton of slate arrives (at some point) then I reckon once I' ve shifted that, I've got a full day of paving and half a day Jointing, finishing and cleaning to get to the finish line 😀
Update...
Given up stating what day it is, I think technically I'm on about 14 days on site but with that many stops start and interruptions due to weather etc I've genuinely lost count!
Anyway, the last few days have been good as far as the weather goes so I've been able to catch up on all the bits that I've been having to work around😀
Concrete slab put down, the surface has been roughened with a wire brush to help with adhesion for the mosaic which will eventually be put on it ( not by me 😒)
All woodwork treated with creocote, brickwork around the hydrangea base to create a small bed for it and brickwork around steps and path edge to create step up from patio area. Grey slate laid at the back of the garage to define storage area and assist with drainage. ACO Drain installed along extension wall and finally actually managed to get some paving down and laid the path with Brazilian slate this morning 😀
Apparently its going to rain tomorow 🤦🏽
End of day 11 (I think seem to be missing a post) . Worked ridiculously hard yesterday and today to shift all the aggregates into the beds while we've had a break in the rain! And literally just made it with about to minutes to spare before rain resumed.
Due to the original soil being clay and quite claggy I've put in a mixture of sand topsoil, stone and nutrients( 7 ton in total) to try and shift the composition a little. hopefully this will improve the drainage significantly
Nearly ready to start working my way out of the garden 😀 but don't think tomorrow will be good for much but the weekend should see me getting to the end if this stage.
roll on the weekend 😀
And then rain halted play! This was at end of last week on the Friday!
I was unable to go any further at this point till the ground dried out so I put a break in the job and have been off it all this week, hoping it will have dried up enough by Monday to get going again. I think Dudley and Eunice may have put a stop to that idea though🤦🏽
Still this is the nature of the game when you work outside. You work through it or around it as best you can, and when you cant.......you find soemthing else to do 😉
