🍂 Beautiful autumn colours and warm days at the moment, with asters, rudbeckia and dahlias still putting on a show. But don't be lulled into a false sense of security!

After a hot, dry summer it's easy to forget that frost can arrive from October, and the weather is certainly starting to turn. Use the next few days to get ahead:

🎃 Harvest the last of your summer crops now, before frost has a chance to damage them
🎃 Lift pumpkins and squash and store them somewhere cool and dry, like a shed, before it turns cold
🌺 Protect tender plants like dahlias: keep fleece to hand for cold nights, and move any pots you want to protect under cover

Get the jobs done while you've got the chance, and you'll be eating from the store cupboard well into winter. 🌱

🧰 On Site – A new sandstone patio takes shape 🏡

This lovely little patio project is for one of our returning customers – we carried out a lot of paving and gravelling for them around 8 years ago, and it's wonderful to be invited back to develop another area of their garden.

The client has chosen beautiful Raj Green Indian Sandstone, finished with a neat sandstone sett edging and gravel to the sides. Once complete, it'll have a pergola over the top with trellis sides, creating a sheltered spot for a bench to sit under.

From small patios to full garden transformations, and everything in between – we love working with returning customers who trust us to keep their outdoor spaces looking great. 🌿

📐 A sharp, triangular shape can make a garden feel small and often unusable.

In this tricky space a multi-level composite deck paired with contrasting contemporary paving on a diagonal design creates new visual lines that make the space feel wider and more dynamic.

The raised planter beds not only add structure and definition but also soften the harsh angles and bring a real sense of depth.

The dark finish contrasts beautifully against the layered, lush greenery — phlox and climbing vines soften the fence line, while phormium, yew, and golden Hakonechloa grass add structure and year-round interest, with brunnera and heuchera bringing splashes of silver and bronze underneath.

With the right design, even the smallest, most awkward spaces can have a big impact!

This project was a true collaboration, meticulously designed by Matthew from Haddon Studio. Our team had the pleasure of bringing his vision to life, handling the landscaping build and planting to deliver the project to the highest standard.

🌾There's something magical about a border like this — drifts of Persicaria amplexicaulis (Red Bistort) weaving through Salvia, Rudbeckia and Verbena bonariensis, with ornamental grasses adding movement and a weathered urn as a quiet focal point.

This is naturalistic, prairie-inspired planting doing exactly what it does best: texture, colour and structure that keeps giving right through late summer, while offering pollinators a feast along the way. 🐝

With summers getting hotter and drier, borders like this are a good reminder of what works. If your garden struggled this year, now's a great time to start thinking about your 2027 planting plan — prairie-style perennials like these are naturally more resilient to heat and drought once established, and they still deliver months of colour and wildlife value.

Don’t let recent rain fool you! 🌧️

While it's a relief to get a break from the heat, a few light showers barely scratch the surface. It actually takes weeks of steady rain to soak 60–70cm down—right where the deep roots of your trees and shrubs are trying to establish.

If you’ve added any new trees, shrubs, or hedging to your garden this year, keep that watering can handy right through until late autumn. Giving them a deep, regular soak at the base will make all the difference to how they survive winter and perform next spring.
