Shaping Scotland since 1925

Bracewell is an award-winning architectural practice with studios in Stirling, Inverness and Oban. Celebrating our centenary in 2025 – with work spanning housing, masterplanning, commercial, conservation and leisure – we bring together heritage, creativity and sustainable design to deliver places that are distinctive, enduring and rooted in Scotland.

Global’s new headquarters at Inverness Campus continues to take shape, with Bracewell supporting the delivery of Global’s vision for the 2,000m² commercial workspace.

As lead architects, Bracewell has worked closely with Global and Capstone Construction the principal contractor, to develop a contemporary headquarters that places people, collaboration and long-term flexibility at the heart of the design. The building brings together office accommodation, meeting rooms and shared social spaces designed to support different ways of working, creating a workplace that reflects Global’s identity while supporting the future growth of the business.

The external character of the building is now emerging, with bespoke cladding being installed to the south-facing elevation to create the distinctive pixelated treatment around the main entrance. Internally, the fit-out is also progressing across the office and meeting spaces as the project moves towards completion later this year.

Sustainability has been considered throughout the design, with air-source heat pumps, photovoltaic readiness, passive ventilation and EV charging incorporated to support the building’s long-term environmental performance.

The project is a strong example of collaboration across the wider Global portfolio, with Bracewell and Capstone Construction working alongside Global to help bring its vision for a high-quality, future-focused headquarters to life.

🥾 Team Bracewell is taking on the Mighty Stride for Team Jak Foundation! 🚶‍♀️‍➡️

On 13 September, Team Bracewell will be stepping out for The Kiltwalk Edinburgh 2026, taking on the 21-mile Mighty Stride to raise vital funds for Team JAK Foundation – Jak’s Den.

Team JAK provides emotional, social and practical support to children and young people with cancer, as well as their families and those bereaved across Scotland. It is a fantastic cause, and one we are very proud to support.

We have already raised £1,346, thanks to the generosity of 58 supporters, but we would love to push that total much further as the big day approaches.

If you would like to support Team Bracewell, you can sponsor any member of the team through our JustGiving page. Every donation, large or small, will help Team JAK continue the incredibly important work they do. (Don't forget the Giftaid 😉)

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. Now it is time to get the training miles in! 💪🥾

Over the last 12 months, Bracewell’s masterplanning and development team has continued to shape sites across Scotland.

During this period, we have prepared 33 Call for Sites submissions across 10 local authority areas, supporting new clients and promoting opportunities for around 6,800 homes alongside education, retail, community and mixed-use development.

Our Call for Sites and Local Development Plan work supports landowners, estate owners and developers in positioning land for allocation and future development. Each site is approached with a clear strategy and creative thinking, combining planning insight, policy understanding and contextual analysis, with people and landscape at the heart of every proposal.

With Calls for Sites currently open in North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire, alongside Edinburgh’s Call for Ideas, there are further opportunities for landowners and developers to help shape future development across Scotland. North Lanarkshire’s consultation is expected to close during August, followed by South Lanarkshire on 18th September and Edinburgh on 30th September.

If you are considering the potential of a site or preparing a submission, our team can provide guidance on site assessment, promotion strategy, masterplanning and supporting material. Please get in touch with Mark Hamilton or Stephen Lynas for an initial discussion.

It is great to welcome Emma to Bracewell, who is spending time with the team as part of a work placement.

Emma has recently completed her first year studying Architectural Technology at Edinburgh Napier University and is gaining practical experience of working within an architectural practice.

During her placement, Emma has been working with measured survey information and existing drawings, developing these digitally and gaining a better understanding of how the skills and knowledge developed at university are applied to live architectural projects.

Work placements provide an important opportunity for students to build practical experience, develop confidence and gain greater insight into the different career pathways available within architecture and the wider built environment.

We hope Emma enjoys her time with Bracewell and takes plenty from the experience. Judging by the amount of red pen on the drawings, we have certainly kept her busy!

There is no single route to building a rewarding career.

This week, Bracewell is supporting Developing the Young Workforce’s campaign, which encourages people across Scotland to share the different journeys that have shaped their careers.

Across our studios, our team has followed a wide range of paths into architecture, masterplanning and energy. Some knew exactly what they wanted to do from an early age, while others changed direction, gained experience through different roles or discovered new opportunities along the way.

By sharing these journeys, we hope to reassure young people that exam results or an unexpected change in direction do not define their future. Every experience can help develop valuable skills and lead towards new opportunities.

There is no single correct path, only the one that is right for you.

29/07/2026

Scotland’s housing emergency will not be solved by setting more targets. It will be solved by creating a system capable of delivering more homes.

Recent research from Homes for Scotland predicts that housing completions could fall from almost 20,000 homes in 2024 to as few as 5,000 homes per year by 2031 if current trends continue. The figures reinforce an increasingly important point: Scotland does not simply have a housing emergency; it has a delivery emergency.

Targets, affordability, tenure mix and funding all matter, but they achieve little unless Scotland can consistently bring forward deliverable sites and convert planning policy into completed homes. Delivery requires available land, coordinated infrastructure, investment confidence, planning certainty and projects that remain viable throughout the development process.

Homes for Scotland’s research highlights a shrinking pipeline of effective housing land, with many Local Development Plans out of date and replacement plans still several years away. At the same time, rising costs, infrastructure constraints and increasingly complex requirements are making development more difficult to bring forward.

As Mark Hamilton, Strategic Design + Masterplan Lead at Bracewell, explains: “This is not about lowering standards or weakening planning. It’s about creating a more effective system where local authorities, infrastructure providers, communities and developers can work together to deliver the homes Scotland urgently needs.”

Scotland needs both quality and pace. Without up-to-date development plans, properly resourced planning services, coordinated infrastructure and a realistic understanding of viability, housing targets will remain aspirations rather than outcomes.

South Lanarkshire Council has launched its Call for Sites, inviting landowners, communities, businesses, developers and their agents to help inform the preparation of Local Development Plan 3.

LDP3 will guide how land is used and developed across South Lanarkshire over the next 10 years, helping to decide where new homes, jobs and infrastructure can go.

The consultation, running from 1st June to 18th September 2026, is open to anyone with an interest in the future of South Lanarkshire. Every suggestion, large or small, can help ensure development reflects the needs and ambitions of those who live, work and visit the area.

At Bracewell, our masterplanning and development team provides guidance on site assessment, submission strategy and how to position proposals within the planning process. Over the last 12 months, we have prepared 33 Call for Sites submissions across 10 local authority areas, comprising proposals for nearly 6,800 homes alongside commercial and other mixed-use developments.

We're pleased to see this residential development now being brought to market, marking another important milestone for our developer client.

Designed and delivered by Bracewell on behalf of our developer client, this high-quality residential development reflects the value of thoughtful design, placemaking and collaboration in creating a home that responds to its setting and meets local housing needs.

From the earliest stages of design development through planning and delivery, our focus was on creating a development that balances architectural quality, functionality and long-term value for both the homeowner and the surrounding community.

We're pleased to see the completed home now being actively marketed and would like to thank our client and the wider project team for their collaboration in bringing the development to completion.
