☀️🔑 One of the perks of the job…

After helping a customer in Cliftonville who found themselves locked inside their own home when their lock suddenly seized up, it was time for a well-earned break.

The faulty lock was removed, the customer was able to get in and out safely again, and normal service was restored. 👍

Jobs like this are a good reminder that locks don’t always fail when you’re trying to get in… sometimes they fail when you’re trying to get out!

So if your lock is becoming stiff, difficult to turn, or feels like it’s sticking, don’t ignore the warning signs. A small problem today can quickly become a bigger one tomorrow.

For now though, with another customer sorted, it was time to enjoy a couple of Costa Coolers in the sunshine. 😎☀️

Today’s call-out took us to Deal after an Airbnb guest found themselves unable to lock or secure the property.

The culprit? A failed Chubb lock.

These older-style locks are incredibly reliable, but like anything mechanical, years of daily use can eventually take their toll. When internal components wear or break, the lock can become stiff, jammed, or stop working altogether.

Fortunately, we were able to diagnose the issue, replace the faulty lock, and get the property secure again for both the guests and the owner.

💡 Did you know?
If your key is becoming difficult to turn, your lock feels stiff, or you find yourself having to “wiggle” the key to get it working, these are often early warning signs that a lock may be on its way out.

One of the questions I always ask new customers is:

This week, a customer in Herne Bay gave an answer I was pleased to hear:

That might sound simple, but there’s a lot behind it.

Euro Cylinder Replacement in Ashford – Customer Couldn’t Secure the Front Door

The key was becoming difficult to turn and the existing euro cylinder had started to fail. On inspection, the lock was showing signs of wear and was no longer providing reliable security.

I removed the faulty cylinder and fitted a new security euro cylinder, restoring smooth operation and reliable locking from both sides of the door.

Job completed in Ashford (TN23–TN27):

* Faulty euro cylinder removed
* New replacement cylinder fitted
* Lock tested and adjusted
* Door secured and working correctly

Just moved house? Here’s the one job most people put off…

Changing the locks.

I see it all the time. You’ve got boxes everywhere, internet issues, furniture deliveries and a list as long as your arm. The locks end up getting pushed down the list.

But here’s the thing…

You have no idea how many keys are still out there.

🔑 Neighbours
🔑 Tradespeople
🔑 Lost or forgotten spare keys

I was reading a Housing UK discussion this week and there were dozens of stories from homeowners who discovered previous owners, relatives and even neighbours still had access after the sale.

Most former owners are honest people.

The problem isn’t trust.

The problem is not knowing who still has a key.

A simple cylinder replacement on a uPVC door or a new mortice lock on a timber door can secure the property properly and give you complete control over who has access.

I’ve been securing homes across Kent for 25+ years and it’s one of the first things I recommend after moving in.

Here’s why I’d never choose a locksmith just because they’re at the top of Google.

That number one spot often isn’t earned- it’s bought.

✅ They pay a fortune to be there
✅ That “£49 locksmith” price is usually just to get someone to your door
✅ Many national lead-generation companies use subcontractors you’ve never heard of
✅ The locksmith industry isn’t licensed or regulated in the UK

Not every locksmith at the top is a scammer, but plenty of customers find the final bill looks nothing like the advert.

My advice?

Choose a local locksmith with a real name, real reviews, a local phone number and a reputation in the community.

Another security upgrade completed in Deal today.

The customer had an older standard nightlatch fitted to their timber front door and wanted something that offered better security and met current insurance requirements.

I upgraded it to a Yale PBS British Standard nightlatch in a brass finish.

Why upgrade?

🚨 Locked Out of Your Airbnb in Herne Bay? Here’s Why… 🚨

Today’s call-out took us to an Airbnb property in Herne Bay after the tenants found themselves locked out with no way of getting back inside.

The culprit? A faulty night latch.

The snib (the small internal locking button) had dropped down , effectively deadlocking the door from the inside. With nobody inside the property to release it, the tenants were left stranded outside.

After gaining access, serviced the lock- the door was back in working order in no time.

🔑 If your night latch feels stiff, loose, or the snib doesn’t operate correctly, it’s worth getting it checked before it leaves you locked out.
