Quick sketch concept I'm working on Modernising the romantic "peasant" painting.

This one was inspired by "girl with basket of grapes" by Bougereau who I've always loved. Over winter I may develop to create a full series.

"Enchanted"

Self portrait in acrylic. Reference taken in Ekeberg Sculpture park by my husband. I'm standing in the middle of the Norwegian pixel forest by Pipilotti Rist

Did some sketches, as always painted over stuff and started again. I used a free app, infinite painter, to compare my painting and the reference repeatedly and to test glazing and blurring.

The last few steps were extra after my husband said the depth of field wasn't right so first we glazed glazed glazed using sculpture gel (yes you can use it carefully to glaze instead) and then we went in with different size brushes to have different blue levels to create clarity.

Nearly there on this piece was up till 1am working away last night in the zone.

I'll finish the hair, hat and background and then just slight adjustments on contrast.

Working on the next piece. Letting the face sit for a bit, it will just be minute millimetre precision changes from here. I'll probably play with it in Photoshop to see what works and what doesn't.

It's a self portrait, with photo taken by my husband in Ekeburgparken in Oslo. It was daylight when it was taken but he took the exposure down to get that high contrast of the lights.

Probably a couple of days off, we'll see if it gets done before I get back to work.

Finished the gift for my brother just before the deadline. Pretty happy with it and fits in the room.

Getting a handle on these feathers it sure takes ages. Give me a face and hair to paint any day.

Got the big brush out for first time in ten years. Redid the beak and eye completely and looking less like a Kookaburra.

Consensus on the background was blue/green and abstract parts so that's what we're going for.

What colour should the background be?

For this bird there's gonna be a lot of pointy feathers and brush strokes so I'm going to need to decide background colour a lot earlier than usual.

I like the turquoise but I'm tending towards the yellow I think.
