Another project completed in Nynehead ✅

The original solid stone gable was traditionally harled, scratch coated and finished using breathable lime render. The newer cavity wall extension was rendered in sand and cement, ensuring the correct system was used for each background.

The low sunlight in these photos shows up absolutely everything on a rendered wall, including the slightest ripple or imperfection, so we’re really pleased with how flat and consistent the finished result looks even under such harsh light.

A lot of preparation and hard work went into this one, but it was well worth it!

Scratch coat completed on our Nynehead project

A bit of a mixed system on this one, making sure the right materials are used for the right parts of the building.

The original solid stone gable has been harled and scratch coated using traditional lime, allowing the wall to breathe and manage moisture as it was designed to.

The newer cavity wall extension has been scratch coated in sand & cement, ready for its float coat.

Both backgrounds now prepped and ready for the next stage

A traditional Tyrolean render finish, giving the property a fresh new look while keeping that classic textured finish.

A fair bit of preparation went into this one before the final finish could go on, but really pleased with how it turned out.

We cover all aspects of external rendering, from traditional sand & cement and Tyrolean finishes through to modern monocouche, silicone render and traditional lime systems.

Another project all prepped and ready for the next stage.

On the extension, we scrabbled off all the old paint to create a solid key before applying Render Grip and fitting all the beads, ready for the sand and cement scratch coat. As it’s a modern cavity wall construction, a traditional sand and cement render system is the appropriate choice.

The original gable is a solid stone wall, so we’ve taken a completely different approach. Instead of sand and cement, we’ve applied a lime harl coat, ready for the lime scratch coat. Solid stone walls need to breathe, and using a breathable lime system allows moisture to escape naturally while protecting the building for years to come.

Every property is different, which is why using the correct materials for the construction of the building is so important.

Long day Thursday 💪

Started the day by skimming a garden room before moving on to a 30m² living room ceiling, which was fully skimmed and finished off with new coving.

Some days are long, but seeing everything come together at the end of the day makes it worthwhile. On to the next one! 👌

Another stage completed on our Crewkerne project

Over the past couple of weeks we’ve stripped all of the old gypsum plaster from the walls, dubbed everything out where needed and applied the scratch coat. The walls are now well prepared and ready for the next stage.

Back on site this week to apply the float coat before the final finish goes on.

Good preparation is the key to a long-lasting finish, and we’re looking forward to seeing this project come together.

Since my last update, we’ve completed the float coat and final skim coat to the newly relathed ceiling, bringing this restoration project to a successful finish.

Working on a house that dates back to 1130 has been a real highlight. Buildings like this are incredibly rare, and it’s fascinating to think about the amount of history contained within its walls. Nearly 900 years of craftsmanship, alterations and stories have shaped this property, making it a privilege to play a part in its ongoing preservation.

The finished ceiling now sits perfectly in keeping with the character of the house, combining traditional materials and techniques with the care needed for a building of this age. We also completed the overboarding and plastering of one of the upstairs bedroom ceilings as part of the works.

A very rewarding project from start to finish and one I’ll certainly remember. It’s not every day you get the opportunity to work on a property that’s stood for almost nine centuries.

What a week it’s been 👌
The weather has been perfect for rendering, and we’ve managed to complete three very different jobs this week for some great customers.

•Saturday & Sunday

Monocouche Render

We finished a full monocouche render system for a repeat customer. It’s always great to be asked back to carry out more work, which says a lot about the quality and trust we aim to provide. The finish has completely freshened up the property with a modern, clean look that will stay low maintenance for years to come.

•Monday & Tuesday

Traditional Sand & Cement Render

At the start of the week we completed a traditional sand and cement render with a smooth flat finish. A lot of preparation and attention to detail went into this one to achieve sharp lines and an even finish throughout. The final result looks clean, solid, and ready for decorating.

•Wednesday & Thursday

Roughcast Render Finish on New Extension

To finish off the week, we completed a roughcast render finish on a new extension, carefully matching the existing house so the new build blends in perfectly with the original property. Matching older finishes takes time, experience, and attention to detail, and we’re really pleased with how seamless the final result turned out.
