This lovely hedge was done with my trusty telescopic hedge shears - I love the ability of creating a nice, natural curve on hedges with my hand shears over the straight edge effect from electric shears.

Let me know if you have any shrubs or hedges that could do with a little tidy up - provided that there are no nesting birds in there, I'd be happy to help you out!

I had the pleasure of helping out a lovely lady who needed an extra pair of hands to tackle the lawns in their garden spaces, to make it a more manageable space for her children to play in.

There were loads of fruiting wild strawberries at the bottom of the garden, which I decided to leave for the wildlife, and when I told the lovely lady she was delighted because her daughter loved that I left the strawberries - she later told me that her daughter said the grass was 'booful!' - which is a massive compliment in my books and a winner of a day all around!

Feel free to get in touch if you'd like a hand with your lawn - I absolutely love my electric cordless strimmer, it's so reliable and it allows me to work on hard to reach areas (also, it has the added bonus of being scent-free and not having that petrol stench from stinky fumes!).

Cutting unruly shrubs into rounded shapes has become one of my favourite tasks to do recently!
They become so bouncy and it's really satisfying to see the process coming together in the end.

This little shrub was becoming overrun with bindweed, so it was a pleasure to remove that at the same time.

I always keep my shears sharp and clean - I disinfect the blades with an alcohol-based sanitiser as to not spread bacteria and diseases between all the different gardens I visit.

If you're looking to add a little bit more shape to your garden and would like your shrubs and/or hedges cut back and trimmed, feel free to get in touch if you need a helping hand!
As long as there are no nesting birds in your garden, I will be more than happy to help you out.
- If you do have nesting birds, we can always book in for late August when the nesting season ends.

I worked on this project back in April and the lovely lady that got in touch with me for my help wanted to rescue this St John's wort.
She mentioned that this plant had been there for over 30 years and she noticed that the retaining wall below it was beginning to bow. She needed someone to come and fix the wall and knew they wouldn't be able to do it with this plant in the way, so she asked for my help to come and rescue this lovely plant instead of hiring someone to cut it down - obviously I was more than happy to help save this plant, it is such a beautiful and strong plant, and it seems a bit of a shame to kill it because it was in the way of a wall in need of repair.

It was indeed a task to get out. As it was so mature, it's roots run very deep and it was a really robust plant. However, I am just as determined and stubborn as most of the plants I come across, and happily wrestled this lovely plant out of the ground to be relocated elsewhere in the garden.

By the end of the day, this lovely lady had not just one St. Johns Wort, she ended up with 5 smaller plants as they form clumps and can be easily divided.

I loved working on this project. It was such a beautiful and tranquil garden. There were so many birds, wildlife visitors, an abundance of colourful flowering plants - this garden was packed with native bluebells.

I'm always happy to relocate plants, so if you have any plants that you'd like a helping hand with moving around your garden, or you would like some assistance with the removal of a plant and don't want to kill it, then please feel free to get in touch with me.

Hello, hello!

Life online has been a bit quiet, although I've been such the busy bee with Basic Birch! (Photos and videos to follow soon).
It's been non-stop for the last few months, I've worked on some really amazing projects and have met some really lovely people along the way, as well as seeing some spectacular wildlife - including a frog today which I helped back to a wildlife pond ๐Ÿธ

Basic Birch - Journals for June is a little bit late and here it is for you to enjoy ๐Ÿ’š

Please feel free to get in touch with me if you need a hand with any garden projects you have on the go, or if you want some help bringing your ideas to life - I am always more than happy to lend a hand in and around the garden ๐Ÿ’š

Wow!

May has been an absolute blessing for me at Basic Birch - I haven't stopped!
I've been such a busy little bee these last few weeks that I've found it difficult to get on the laptop to share with you all of the amazing projects that I've worked on recently - my before & after photo to-do lists just keep piling up and piling up (which, again, is an absolute blessing to have so much wonderful work to do in order to show you all of the lovely work that I've been doing).

Yesterday though, the very last day of May (and into early hours of this morning), I managed to pull together Basic Birch - Journals #5, which I am super excited to share with you all because I have so much fun putting it all together and love to share with you my nature propaganda!

I hope you enjoy the May edition of Basic Birch - Journals and have yourselves a lovely day!

Thank you to everyone for all of your continued support for Basic Birch ๐Ÿ’š

This project has been lovely to work on so far and it is wonderful to be able to help out another local business with their gardening needs.

The whole perimeter of this building needed a little bit of a tidy up and I am always more than happy to assist with tasks like this, knowing that no chemicals are being used and there is as little harm done to the local wildlife and surrounding environment as possible - although I did end up disrupting a whole colony of little ants during this job, sorry ants!

I'm more than happy to return to this lovely local business and hope to help them improve the planting areas by assisting with their ambitions to increase the biodiversity around the grounds and adding more colourful flowering plants and planting some spring flowering bulbs such as Daffodils in the autumn.

Let me know if you need any gardening work done on your property and I'll be more than happy to help you out too.

I was delighted to be asked to help out with this garden.

The family were all super busy with work and home life, as well as getting the house in order to sell as there was a lot of work to do on the inside.
They just didn't really know where to start on the back garden because it was quite overgrown with rambling roses and brambles that ended up tangled together into a matrix of thorny chaos - which, I honestly had the best time sorting out and clearing.

For me, it was like a big puzzle of finding out what is growing where, what is tangled up with who and how is the best way to tackle and clear some space.
The aim for this garden was to cut the overgrowth and clear a path to the shed, so with these objectives clarified, this garden project turned into a big game for me and I had a lot of fun clearing away the overgrowth and making some space.

It was really satisfying seeing different parts of the garden become unearthed and it was lovely to be able to discover all the different plants that became uncovered, like the big lily which was a wedding present to the couple who owned the house.
I also found out that the family used to enjoy a bonfire out the back garden, so it became a mini game for me to collect some wood, old branches, sticks and twigs or anything that could be used as firewood as I went along, for their fire pit so they can enjoy a few more fires in their garden before moving.

The neighbouring gardens also had a whole host of different types of bird visitors that I had the pleasure of listening to the time I was there, as well as seeing so many insects, bugs and other wildlife in this garden while I was working on this project.

The family were really pleased with how their garden turned out and were amazed that I tackled it all with a pair of secateurs (and of course my thornproof gloves, which I don't know what I'd do without!).

Another project that I absolutely loved working on and I cannot wait for the next one!

This little variegated Euonymus shrub was basically being a bit greedy and wanted all the garden to herself, which was outcompeting the neighbouring Roses, Irises, Forget Me Nots and other plants of sunlight, nutrients and space.

With my trusty garden shears, I enforced a little bit of social distancing and cut back this shrub a bit and tried to get her into a nice, rounded shape (which the photos don't really do her justice).
The beauty of cutting shrubs like this is that I was able to take a few cutting for myself, which I now refer to as my tips from work.

If your shrubs are getting a bit unruly or want them to have a little trim and a nice new shape, feel free to get in touch with me.
It's still nesting season at the moment, so provided that there are no nesting birds in your shrubs or hedges, I'll be more than happy to help you out with your garden.

This lovely front garden has become a little regular project for me, which I am so happy to return to every few weeks.

It always amazes me how quickly the grass grows and this is a great opportunity for me to practise my strimming skills - lawns aren't generally my favourite garden task in the world, but making outdoor spaces neat and tidy which then makes my clients happy is what I love to do, and they are always really chuffed with the work I do here on their front garden.

This project is mainly a case of clearing away any of the unwanted plants growing in and around the steps, the doorway and anything growing on the concrete, as well as strimming the grass away and tidying up the flower borders.

It always makes me smile working on this garden because there is always a small audience of cats watching me do my work, sitting in the bay window.
And the family are absolutely lovely people who are a pleasure to work for.
Also, there are always a very active community of jackdaws, magpies and ravens flying around this area, which constantly makes my days at work all the more enjoyable.

If you'd like a helping hand with your outdoor spaces, even as a one-off or would like someone to regularly undertake garden maintenance for you, feel free to get in touch with me on
