Throwback to a little project last year.
The dated gas fire was capped off and removed then the fireplace opened up. Then, a tanking slurry was applied to future proof any damp problems and a mesh membrane was applied to stop the salts coming through the plaster.
Next insulated plasterboard was installed and then plastered, leaving the arch exposed.
Finished off with a decorative sandstone hearth and built in cupboards.
