The Future Homes Standard is coming, and for builders, the question isn't whether you'll comply - it's how you get there without blowing your build programme or your budget.

The answer is: fabric-first. Get the building envelope right and the rest has less heavy lifting to do. That means U-values, airtightness and thermal bridges are calculated at design stage, not as an afterthought.

Aircrete has always been well-suited to this approach. It's thermally efficient and airtight when properly detailed.

Three things you should know before you start your self-build 👇

1. Thermal performance isn't something you can add on later.

By the time you're thinking about heating bills and EPC ratings, the walls are already built. The material you choose at the start determines how warm and comfortable your home will be for decades. Aircrete has excellent thermal properties making it one of the best materials for energy efficient houses. Get the materials right and you won't need to compensate elsewhere.
