Designed For Today, Prepared For Tomorrow | Seaford

Today we're revisiting another of our Seaford projects, where a comprehensive programme of extensions and internal remodelling transformed an existing family home into a contemporary property designed to meet both the client's current lifestyle and future needs.

A striking two-storey front extension creates a new entrance, providing a welcoming porch at ground floor level and a generous family bathroom above. To the side and rear, a substantial wraparound single-storey extension delivered a new garage, utility room, guest bedroom with en-suite, and a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living area that has become the heart of the home.

Large sliding doors and rooflights flood the new living spaces with natural light, creating a bright, open environment that seamlessly connects the house with the garden. The contemporary extensions sit comfortably alongside the original property, combining clean architectural lines with high-quality materials to create a cohesive design.

The project also included extensive internal reconfiguration to create a ground-floor bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. This was a key part of the brief, future-proofing the home to provide flexible ground-floor living accommodation should the client's needs change over time.

Nearing Completion | Arts & Crafts Home Transformation in Seaford

We’re approaching completion on this transformation of a beautiful Arts & Crafts-style home in Seaford, East Sussex, with the decorators now carrying out the final finishing works.

Our brief was to modernise and substantially improve the way the house works for contemporary family life, while respecting the character and architectural qualities of the original property.

To the rear, we designed a new single-storey extension, creating a generous open-plan kitchen and dining space overlooking the garden. Large areas of glazing bring natural light into the new space and create a much stronger connection between the house, terrace and garden.

The contemporary flat-roofed extension provides a deliberate contrast to the traditional architecture of the original house, while remaining relatively understated when viewed in the context of the property as a whole.

Internally, we have extensively reconfigured and overhauled the house, creating the new kitchen/dining space, a separate utility area, upgraded bathrooms and improvements throughout.

We also secured planning permission for the conversion and extension of the existing double garage to form a self-contained annexe, providing flexible additional accommodation within the grounds (Phase Two).

The aerial photographs really demonstrate the relationship between old and new – retaining the distinctive character and roofscape of the original Arts & Crafts home while introducing a clean, contemporary addition to the rear.

With the main construction work now substantially complete and the final decoration underway, we’re looking forward to seeing the finished interiors and sharing the completed project soon.

Creating space for modern family living | Seaford

Today we're revisiting a project in Seaford where we transformed an existing property through the addition of both a single-storey and two-storey extension, creating a home that works far better for modern family life.

The client's existing conservatory had become unusable for much of the year, being uncomfortably hot in the summer and freezing cold throughout the winter. The decision was made to remove it entirely and replace it with a high-quality extension that now provides a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living area that can be enjoyed all year round.

Opening up the rear of the property required several structural steel beams to support the existing accommodation above, allowing the new living space to flow seamlessly into the garden while creating a bright, practical heart of the home.

The side extension also delivered valuable additional accommodation, creating a new utility room on the ground floor with a generous family bathroom above. At first-floor level, the extension also provided a much larger principal bedroom, significantly improving the overall layout and functionality of the house.

This project is a great example of how a carefully considered extension can unlock the full potential of an existing home, replacing underperforming spaces with comfortable, practical accommodation designed for everyday living.

Site Progress | Taking Shape in Newhaven

Another progress update from our major home transformation in Newhaven, East Sussex, where the scale of the project is now becoming much clearer.

Since our last update, work has progressed significantly to the extended first-floor accommodation and rear dormer. The new structure is now formed, with the glazing installed and the enlarged first floor beginning to take on its finished proportions.

The aerial photographs provide a great perspective on just how extensive the transformation is. What began as a traditional family home is being substantially extended and remodelled to create a larger, more accessible home designed around our client's long-term needs.

The project includes a ground-floor extension, major internal and structural alterations, disability adaptations and the substantial extension of the existing rear dormer to provide additional first-floor accommodation.

The drone views also really highlight the property's fantastic elevated setting, with far-reaching views across Newhaven, the harbour and coastline towards Seaford Head.

There is still plenty of work to come, but with the new building envelope taking shape, you can now really begin to appreciate the scale of the finished home.

A Complete Home Transformation | Seaford

Today we're revisiting one of our Seaford projects, where a dated property was completely reimagined, both inside and out, to create a contemporary family home.

The transformation extended far beyond a traditional extension. Externally, the house was given a completely new identity with crisp white render, striking vertical slate cladding, a new roof incorporating integrated solar panels, and a dramatic double-height vaulted entrance hall that creates an impressive sense of arrival.

To the rear, a substantial extension forms a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and garden room – a light-filled space designed to become the heart of the home. Large areas of glazing and multiple rooflights flood the interior with natural light, creating a seamless connection between the house and garden.

Internally, the property was comprehensively remodelled to complement the contemporary exterior, delivering a layout that better reflects the way the family lives today while significantly improving the quality of the accommodation.

Site Progress | The Roof Takes Shape in Seaford

Another significant milestone at our major home transformation in Seaford, with the new roof structure now taking shape across the property. The extensive cut-and-pitch timber roof really demonstrates the scale of the transformation.

What was previously a collection of existing and proposed elements is now being brought together beneath a completely redesigned roofscape, giving the house its new overall form and character.

There is a lot happening within the structure too. Multiple roof pitches, projecting gables and the central table top roof section all have to work together while accommodating the substantially remodelled first-floor layout below.

The aerial views also provide a great reminder of the property's setting. Sitting on the edge of Seaford/Bishopstone, the house has extensive views across the surrounding countryside, with the South Downs in one direction and the coast in the other.

Projects at this stage are always particularly rewarding. The drawings and details we've been working with for months are rapidly becoming a three-dimensional structure on site, and you can now really start to appreciate the scale of the finished home.

Still plenty to come, but a major step forward for this transformation.

🏆BEST PARTNERSHIP – SOUTH EAST REGION

We're incredibly proud that G3 Architecture and Lewes District Council Building Control have won the LABC Building Excellence Award 2026 for Best Partnership with a Local Authority Building Control Team – South East Region. And this one has been more than a decade in the making.

We first began working with Lewes Building Control in 2015, establishing our formal LABC Partnership in 2017. Since then, we've developed a relationship built around open communication, trust, technical collaboration and a shared commitment to delivering safe, compliant and high-quality buildings.

Whether through meetings at our office, Teams calls, telephone conversations or discussions during construction, having an open dialogue means potential issues can be identified early and practical solutions agreed before they result in unnecessary delays on site.

For our clients and contractors, that means better coordination, fewer delays and greater confidence throughout construction. We're extremely proud that a professional relationship developed over so many years has now received regional recognition from LABC.

Two adjoining homes, two completely different design briefs | Lewes

Although these neighbouring properties shared the same location within the Lewes Conservation Area, each required a unique architectural response, reflecting the differing lifestyles and aspirations of their owners.

For this home, the client's priority was to create a light-filled, contemporary living space that better suited modern family life and home working. The design introduces a striking double-height kitchen and dining area, flooded with natural light, alongside a mezzanine study that overlooks the space below.

This creates a strong visual connection between the living and working environments while maintaining an open, spacious feel.

One of our favourite features is the combination of the Crittall-style glazing and the rooflight positioned above the staircase. Together, they draw daylight deep into the home, creating a bright and welcoming interior while adding a distinctive architectural character.

Projects like this demonstrate how thoughtful design can transform existing homes, even within the constraints of a conservation area, delivering contemporary spaces that respect their historic surroundings.

🏆 BEST RESIDENTIAL EXTENSION – SOUTH EAST REGION

Following our recent double award announcement, we wanted to share a little more about the project that won G3 Architecture the LABC Building Excellence Award 2026 for Best Residential Extension in the South East.

This substantial 1930s family home in Seaford had been extended several times over the years, but the additions had left the house with fragmented spaces, poor circulation and a kitchen that was disproportionately small for the property.

Rather than simply adding another extension, we used the project as an opportunity to rethink how the entire home worked.

The finished scheme creates generous, interconnected family spaces, brings significantly more natural light into the property and creates a much stronger connection between the house and garden.

The transformation went far beyond what you can see in the finished photographs. The project included extensive structural engineering and a comprehensive whole-house energy upgrade, including underfloor heating, 5kW solar PV, 5.12kWh battery storage and two EV chargers.

The family also remained living in the property throughout the construction – making careful planning, communication and teamwork essential.

We are incredibly proud of the finished result and delighted to see the design, technical work and collaboration behind it recognised by LABC.

Site Progress | A New Form Emerging in Seaford

Another progress update from our major home transformation in Seaford, with the new form of the property now really beginning to emerge.

The timber roof structure has progressed considerably, revealing the scale and character of the redesigned home.

From above, you can now clearly see how the new roof forms work across the extended footprint, bringing together the retained building and substantial new elements as one cohesive design.

These aerial photographs also highlight the property's fantastic setting. Positioned on the edge of Bishopstone, the house enjoys far-reaching views across the surrounding countryside and towards the South Downs National Park – something that has played an important role in the design from the outset.

This is far more than an extension. The project involves the comprehensive remodelling and extension of the existing property, with significant alterations at ground and first-floor level and an entirely reworked roofscape.

As the timber structure continues to develop, the architectural form that previously existed only on our drawings is becoming increasingly visible on site.

A great stage of the build to see taking shape (we love a cut and pitch roof!).
