A heat pump for less than the cost of a new gas boiler? 👀
One of our long-standing customers came to us wanting to make their home more sustainable and less exposed to ever-changing energy prices.

After an energy consultation and talking through their options, we looked at the Heat Geek Zero Disruption approach. By making the most of what they already had, we were able to replace their old gas boiler with a Vaillant UK Pro air source heat pump for less than the cost of installing a new gas boiler.

We didn’t need to replace everything either.
Their existing hot water cylinder was retained and modified to work better with the heat pump, and there was no need to upgrade the radiators. We also removed the existing pump and mixer from the underfloor heating, allowing the system to operate properly at the much lower flow temperatures of the heat pump.

A big thank you to Ian from I.R.B Heating, who helped us remove the old gas boiler and modify the pipework while we worked on the heat pump and hot water cylinder.
To complete the system, we also installed a 10kWh myenergi Libbi battery, a new distribution board and upgraded the property’s Wi-Fi.

Combined with their existing solar PV system, this home can now generate, store and use much more of its own energy — reducing their reliance on the grid and helping protect them from energy price changes driven by events happening thousands of miles away.

A smarter, more efficient home, without replacing things that didn’t need replacing.

This week we installed Eleven Energy new sodium battery system, and we're genuinely excited about what this technology could mean for the future of home energy storage.

As part of the installation, we fitted 12 × 465W AIKO Energy Neostar all-black solar PV panels, an Eleven Energy 5kW North Sea inverter, 2 × 4.5kWh Galvani sodium-ion batteries, a Ubiquiti Inc wireless access point for the garage, and finished everything off with SolaSkirt for a clean, professional finish.

Sodium is one of the most abundant elements on Earth, making it a promising alternative to traditional battery chemistries. One of the most exciting prospects is the future use of sodium sourced from the by-products of desalinating seawater into drinking water, helping to create a more sustainable and resilient supply chain.
From an installer's perspective, the system was very familiar to fit, making installation straightforward. What really impressed us was how simple and intuitive the commissioning process was, allowing us to get the system up and running quickly.

We're always keen to embrace new technologies that can benefit our customers, and after this week's installs we'd be more than happy to fit sodium-ion battery systems on future projects.

Another ground source heat pump brought up to modern standards. ♻️

This project involved replacing an ageing ground source heat pump with a new Stiebel Eltron UK Ltd WPE-I R290 giving the homeowner a far more efficient and reliable heating system for years to come.

To complete the installation, we fitted a new Spirotech UK dirt and magnet filter, IMI expansion vessels throughout the system, and relocated the hot water cylinder into a nearby cupboard. This freed up valuable space in the plant room, making the whole installation much neater and easier to maintain.

We also re-fitted the existing water softener, sorted out the Wavin underfloor heating controls, and, as always, finished the electrical installation with a new consumer unit to ensure everything meets the latest standards.

It's always satisfying to modernise an older heating system and leave the customer with a more efficient, reliable and serviceable installation.

Another upgrade complete at the Home Energy Innovation office! ☀️🔋

We've expanded our system with another Sigenergy battery, 6 kWp of Solar panels, full smart integration, and an additional Zappi EV charger.
The new solar array not only generates clean electricity to power our office and charge our vehicles, but also provides valuable shade to help keep the building cooler during the summer. Combined with Loxone, the whole system intelligently manages when to store energy, charge vehicles, and power the building, ensuring we make the most of every unit of solar we generate.

Our office is becoming a real-life demonstration of how smart controls and renewable technologies can work together to create a more comfortable, efficient, and sustainable building.

🌍 Ground Source Heat Pump Replacement Complete ✅
We recently completed the replacement of a problematic ground source heat pump system with a new Stiebel Eltron WPE-I 15 HK 230 Premium ground source heat pump, paired with a 500L hot water cylinder.
The previous system had caused the customer ongoing issues, so reliability and performance were the main priorities from day one.
A huge thank you to for the excellent support throughout the design process. Their technical assistance was invaluable in helping us deliver the right solution for this project.
As always, we used quality components throughout:

🔄 circulation pumps.
With this being a very large property, we designed the system with a 4-pipe buffer arrangement to ensure efficient operation and excellent heating performance across the home.
Another quality renewable heating installation completed, giving the customer a reliable, efficient system they can depend on for years to come.

Another install completed this week

This one features a .uk 5kW air source heat pump paired with a 250L cylinder, along with a new distribution board fitted in the garage to complete the electrical upgrade.

We also fitted a high-flow ESBE diverter valve, helping to achieve the best possible flow rates through the system. Getting the hydraulics right is just as important as choosing the heat pump itself. By reducing restrictions and maintaining good circulation, the system can operate more efficiently, deliver heat more effectively, and help the heat pump perform exactly as it was designed to.

A lot of planning and attention to detail goes into these installs, from design through to commissioning. The goal is always the same – a clean, tidy installation that not only looks good but is built to perform for years to come.

Really pleased with how this one turned out. Another happy customer making the move to a more energy-efficient heating system. 🔧♻️
