👋 Meet the Team: Martin Pullen

Martin started at Traditional Stone in 2015 and worked his way up to Production Director. Beginning his career as an apprentice stonemason, Martin has developed exceptional expertise in both new build stone projects and restoration work making him an extremely valuable member of our team.

Throughout his career he has contributed to numerous prestigious projects including Buckingham Palace and Arundel Castle.

In his spare time Martin is an avid Arsenal supporter and enjoys spending time with his family and dog, Buddy 🐾

Stone Supply & Contract Cutting ⚙️

Our stone specialists can advise on the right stone selection to achieve the best performance and aesthetic while meeting the client’s budget. We work with a wide range of British and European stones, cutting and carving all of our stonework in house.

We use a range of saws to deliver precision at every stage, and much of our stonework is then hand‑finished by our skilled banker masons to ensure the highest level of craftsmanship.

🏛️ Southampton HARP Phase 3 🏛️

Traditional Stone, acting as main contractor, undertook multiple heritage projects around Southampton City Centre as part of Southampton City Council’s Heritage Asset Repair Programme, Phase 3.

The works consisted of 17 different sites, Grade I & II, including Bargate, Westgate Tower, Westgate Hall, Tudor House and multiple Vaults.

Our works included:
- Vegetation removal
- Raking out cement mortar and repointing with hot lime
- Stone re-bedding and replacement
- Brick repairs
- Lime rendering
- Carpentry repairs
- Drainage improvements

It was a privilege to help maintain the heritage at the heart of Southampton’s historic city centre.

👋Meet the Team: John Rye

John began his extensive career as an apprentice at Building Crafts Training College in London. He joined Traditional Stone in early 2018, bringing solid knowledge of all aspects of masonry, and now works as one of our Senior Contracts Managers.

Throughout his career, John has worked on many notable projects and has gathered some remarkable experiences along the way, most interesting was in 1992: while working on the Keep at Windsor Castle, the main castle caught fire. John, along with fellow colleagues, spent the day inside the burning building with the military and fire service, rescuing valuable works of art and furniture. His photo was later published in the newspaper, and he met the late Queen Elizabeth II so she could thank him in person (swipe for pics).

Outside of work, John enjoys live music, travelling and paddle boarding. He is also an avid supporter of Brighton & Hove Albion FC.

🏡 Private House, Midhurst

Traditional Stone were appointed as specialist masonry subcontractor, designing, manufacturing and installing Fittleworth and York stone walling along with all associated fixings, for both this new build extension and repairs to the existing property.

A great demonstration of the character natural stone brings to a home.

Brendan joined Traditional Stone as Production Manager in September 2025, bringing with him years of experience within the stone industry. His expertise ensures a smooth production process, overseeing programming, workflow and overall production efficiency.

Brendan is known for his organisation skills and his attention to detail, delivering high-quality stonework on time, supporting the company’s reputation for excellence across every project.

In his spare time Brendan enjoys spending time in his home workshop and discovering new dog walks with his Labrador, Hunter 🐶
