Nominated for the Climate Impact and Sustainability Award, sponsored by the University of Reading, is Guglielmo Miccolupi - Commando Jugendstil 💜

“Guglielmo’s murals are so much more than works of art,” said the nominator. “They tell the stories of our town, celebrate our wildlife and biodiversity, and inspire us to reimagine Reading as a greener, more sustainable place.”

Through his community murals, Guglielmo brings together residents and volunteers of all ages, giving people the opportunity to play a part in their creation and transform local spaces.

Residents are being invited to be part of a unique community art project this summer.

The Solar Mural artwork is being created by artist Commando Jugendstil in partnership with New Directions College and aims to bring together creativity, sustainability and local people.

The finished artwork will include lights, sound and sensors that will respond as people walk past its location at the college, making it an engaging and welcoming space for everyone.

Free workshops are taking place in the town centre and south Reading throughout August where volunteers can help paint the mural.

You can drop-in and join in painting the mural on Saturdays between 10am-6pm, throughout August, at Reading Bike Hub in the town centre, and at New Directions College, in Northumberland Avenue, Tuesday to Friday, 9am-4pm, until 29 August.

No artistic experience is required and there’s no need to register.

Our new mural has found its home at Holy Brook Nook 🏡

22 metres of panels, held together by around 350 special screws, now installed for everyone in Reading to enjoy 📏🔩

This is what painting a community mural looks like 🔎

In 46 days, 234 volunteers, 3 school classes and a lot of returning faces came together, brush in hand 👥🖌️ Some even came back 10 times to keep painting!
