Our hydraulic grabbers were put to good use on this job, retrieving a gully cover that had somehow fallen into the drainage system and managed to travel down the line before becoming firmly lodged.

Definitely not something you expect to find inside a drain!

🌳 A Serious Case of Root Intrusion! 🌳

This was a very large root mass removed from a drainage line, showing just how extensively tree and plant roots can make their way into underground pipework.

Roots will naturally seek out moisture and can enter through small cracks, damaged joints or defects within a drainage system. Once inside, they can continue to grow and expand, catching waste and debris and eventually causing restricted flow, recurring blockages and further damage to the pipework.

Removing the roots is an important first step, but identifying how and where they entered the drainage line is equally important. A CCTV inspection can help locate any defects and determine whether further remedial work, such as a patch repair or drain lining, may be recommended to help prevent the problem from returning.

🚧 Before & After – Large Manhole Blockage Cleared! 🚧

Another significant manhole blockage successfully cleared by the BP Drains team, restoring the drainage system back to a free-flowing condition.

The before photo shows just how substantial the blockage was, while the after photo was taken immediately after the blockage had been removed. The manhole was then given a thorough wash-down and clean afterwards, leaving the chamber in a much cleaner condition than shown.

It’s always satisfying to see the difference once a major blockage has been tackled! 💪
