I thought I would use the desk to support these shelves. They are held together with pocket hole screws and I anchored the whole unit to the wall with L-brackets.

A Coach, a mentor, a farmer and an anaesthetist walk into a bar. . .
. . Ok, not a bar but a Zoom call.

This is what has happened every two weeks from October through to June of this year as part of The Expedition- my online coaching group for men.

The Expedition solves a very real problem that men face and one which effects all areas of their lives and everyone in their lives whether they realise it or not and this is a problem that often goes unsolved. What is it?

Men are not talking
❌They do not have the right arena to talk to other men.
❌They are not being listened in the right manner.
❌No one in their lives is truly impartial.

And because of this, the problems they face seem insurmountable, opportunities laid before them can remain untapped and men do not feel how they want to. It also means that their own happiness can snowball downhill when it does not have to.

So, every two weeks my coaching group have gathered together to talk about whot is really important to them. They get to listen to stories about the lives of others and build a real sense of community. As their coach I help steer the course of the Expedition to ensure everyone achieves their goals through our group collaboration.

It’s a very special programme that I am proud to have created and I am now interviewing for new members to join and go on their own Expedition, starting in October. Each cohort will have a maximum of five members so places are limited.

I built this desk and shelving combo for the company I mentor young people for.

Skill saw, drill, pocket hole jig and the usual measuring tools needed.

Screwing a sheet of ply to the wall and then securing the shelves to that was a time saver.

I will add a lighting strip to the underside of the lowest shelf soon and some hooks to the left of the shelves for hanging rulers, squares, protractors etc.

Garden benches.

They take 60x60cm seat cushions which you can buy separately (the ones in shot are from Ikea).

They include recycled rubber feet to keep the wooden legs off the ground.

The design includes a small shelf area at either end for your drinks/ nibbles/ book.

Arrange them individually or at a right angle.

2.4m in length.

Taking orders now.
Built in Poole.

What does a Life Coach and former carpenter do in his spare time?

He builds what he wants because time on the tools is medicine for my mind and body.

I will be talking more about this project next week but in the meantime take a looks at some of the features of my new fold away desk.

I have been wanting a neat solution for my home work station. Using my dining room table is not the answer so I took some inspiration from others and have started to make my own standing desk.

Garage workstation on top of Wickes kitchen cabinets. A nice solution to help tidy a garage and provide space for the owner to work on their bikes etc.

They plan to add a mat to the surface of th bench to keep it good of oil etc.

I built a sleeper wall to contain a raised lawn which sat amidst lots of great work done by two friends of mine.

Working outdoors and loosing myself in the project was a form of therapy. I switched off my coaching head and immersed myself in problem solving, measuring, cutting and crafting something that solved a problem and was pleasing to the eye.

What have you recently immersed yourself in that takes your away to a different mental and perhaps physical space? I ask because I think we could all benefit from such variety.
