Our engineer Liam servicing two Potterton Suprima boilers today.

One boiler had ignition lockout. While servicing he noticed the burner injector was blocked.

While servicing he cleaned out the injector and the boiler fired up every time.

Servicing is a big part of keeping your system healthy and your boiler running smoothly through winter.

We sometimes hear people say “boilers are best not serviced and if not broke don’t fix it”. This is not the case! Most people wouldn’t miss a service on their car. Mainly because its used everyday and you notice it more! Where a boiler is shut in a cupboard we take for granted the hot water and heating it provides!

They need cleaning and regular check ups to avoid further cause of damage as nothing lasts for ever!

Another boiler install from BR6 Heating.

This was due to a old unvented cylinder coil corroded.

During the install to put in a new combination boiler and system pipe work, we noticed a automatic air vent on the return.

This is a big mistake as it will be on the negative side of the pump drawing air into the system creating oxidisation and rust.

We correct this and fitted as to manufacturers specifications.

When you go get to a job and customer says under floor heating isnt working.

You see 4 wiring centres 5 zone valves not marked up.

Two under floor heating circuit board been linked to one zone valve,one wiring centre.

Best bit is 3 wiring centres are behind big water softener down the bottom. 🫣🫣🫣

We carried out a recent service on this boiler.

Going in the loft to check the tanks as always noticed a stuck ball valve not filling the heating with water.

And also a slow drip staining the chipboard. We booked it back for a new ball valve and float to fill the system and avoid costly repair’s. We also stuck a container under what we suspected leaking.

Going today we noticed the water in the container, removed the valve leaking and replaced.

This is why we always go in the loft on our services if you have tanks.

With scary energy bills at the moment! Us heating engineers are being asked more than ever about saving gas!

If your boiler is serviced this is a ideal opportunity to ask your engineer on best way’s to save!

On this job previously servicing the boiler, we was asked this question!
With checking the whole system we could see no thermostatic radiator valves!
With a 4 bedroom house and this customer on their own we advised to fit 9 thermostatic radiator valves.

Many customers are surprised when we explain that thermostatic radiator valves do not sense the temperature of the radiator but the ambient temperature of the room! So if setting to number 4 (roughly 20 degrees celsius) you are not overheating a room.
Also this improves the circulation to the radiators most needed for heating larger rooms.

This customer also has a log burner she lights regularly in the lounge. So now her radiators will work with the log burner in not wasting gas to overheat the room!

We highly advise going for top branded thermostatic radiator valves, like Honeywell, Danfoss, Drayton they last much longer than the £4.00 valves.

Called due to radiators heating with hot water on. Traced fault to this Honeywell 3 port valve.

This is a very common issue. But with energy prices high this customer’s concern was waste of energy!

We replaced the valve and timer due to intermittently not switching on.

Added inhibitor, refilled and tested!

Carried out a annual service on this Remeha Advanta boiler.

While we carry out a service we also look for potential components that could cause a problem. You can see in this photo the flow turbine has signs of leaking. We advised the customer to replace to avoid a problem with no hot water occurring.

Also the electrodes we clean on a service also could be a problem in the future of no flame sensing.

Our engineer Liam today got called to a job due to no hot water.

He traced the fault to a isolating valve being blocked to the hot water cylinder. This also resulted in ‘pumping over’ causing oxidisation. As you can see from the colour of the water this created rust!

Which blocked up the pump and air separator. Pumping over will destroy a central heating system.

At BR6 Heating we always checked the expansion tank to make sure this is not happening.

Today we carried out a service on a Ideal boiler.

We noticed a new water softener fitted. If ever you are thinking or have a water softener make sure to ask you engineer about filling the boiler with softened water.

Reason for this is most boilers have aluminium heat exchangers. Aluminium is not a dense metal and in result is not to be filled by salt water as this can attack the aluminium and cause a very expensive repair or new boiler.

Most water softeners should have a choice for hard water to bypass the softener ( as seen in the pictures two blue taps to be turned off and yellow opened).

Alternatively if having new boiler opt for a stainless steel heat exchanger which can be filled using softened water.

Not so plumbing or heating related. But a special request from a customer to make a clothes rail out of copper.

Nice and strong! Copper is a great material to work with, so many advantages outside and inside!

Service done before the cold
weather!

This boiler is over 14years old
and been serviced every year correctly! Never had any problems with this boiler!

✅ Hoovered out boiler
✅ Done required manufacturers checks
✅ Clean electrodes
✅ Checked expansion vessel
✅ Run and tested checking all radiators and vented
✅Topped pressure up on system

This boiler is running on 35-40 year old radiators, with no cold spots. Inhibitor introduced every year shows the difference it can make!

Another boiler install complete!

This customer had a fault on a boiler that was beyond economical repair.

Managed to squeeze the job in to get the heating and hot water back up and running! Done a full days powerflush before carrying out the install.

All back up and running with 10year warranty parts and labour!
