The true cost of a bad installation? Leaks, an unusable shower, and having to pay twice to get it done properly. 🛑💦
We were recently called out to help a client who was left with a completely unusable bathroom after a disastrous installation by another contractor. The workmanship was shocking, but what was hiding behind the walls—and caught on video—was even worse.
Here is what we uncovered:
❌ Standard, non-waterproof plasterboard used directly inside the shower zone.
❌ A shower screen that wasn't even secured to the wall—it literally wobbled back and forth!
❌ Wall panels hacked with a hand saw, leaving massive jagged corner gaps filled with peeling blobs of silicone.
❌ A badly supported shower tray and failing seals everywhere, guaranteeing leaks.
❌ Radiator pipes dangerously kinked to the point of breaking, and water pipes lazily tacked along the outside skirting boards instead of hidden in the walls.
❌ Zero tanking or waterproofing anywhere.
We had to completely strip the shower back to the bare studwork, but we were determined to save our client some money. We managed to carefully salvage and reuse the original shower enclosure, tray, and mixer valve! ♻️
From there, we did it the Adapt4Life way:
✅ Reinforced all the timber studwork for a rock-solid foundation.
✅ Installed proper waterproof boarding and a full tanking system.
✅ Rerouted all the plumbing directly into the walls for a seamless, hidden finish.
✅ Fitted brand new, perfectly cut wall panels with the correct adhesives and proper corner trims.
✅ Ran neat, new, un-kinked pipework for the heated towel rail.
Swipe to see the unbelievable mess we uncovered behind the old panels, and watch the video to see just how bad the original installation was—followed by the pristine, watertight finish our client can now enjoy safely! 📸🎥
