Very happy to say that as a result of some considerable effort earlier this year, we have managed to get the Scotch Derrick Crane at Navigation Yard listed!! The crane sits at the old boat yard currently in private ownership with other listed structures. The crane is currently in need of some TLC but still a beautiful structure. The waggon rails across the site to the crane have also been listed, which I think is pretty blinkin' amazing as I had no idea you could list things on the ground too (see screenshot).
This took a fair bit of effort. It involved facilitation and coordination alongside just generally keeping going to try and get it sorted. A lot of behind the scenes work was also done. A true 'leading from behind' approach was adopted. A big shout out should be given to John Tackley (RWNS), everyone at the Daniel Adamson, all those that wrote to Historic England in support of the listing (local reps and members of public) and finally to the officer at CWAC who helped get this going.
If there is a structure or a building out there that you think should be listed, try and get it listed, it might just work out! It has been, for me, a learning curve and very happy to have played a part in getting this piece of history on the register.
Keep going if you're doing community work and thinking creatively! Sometimes it DOES work.
