MIDWEEK EDUCATIONAL POST
Friction Stays (Hinges) – Part 2 of 2
Last week we explained how worn window hinges can cause gaps and draughts. This week: why choosing the correct replacement matters.
Window hinges aren’t all the same. The length, fitting height and whether the window opens from the side or top all affect which hinges are suitable.
Some also provide an escape opening or an easy-clean position—features that need to be considered when replacing them.
A stiff window doesn’t automatically need new hinges. It may need servicing or adjustment, so checking the cause first can save unnecessary expense.
Don’t force a window that’s catching or won’t close properly.
Have a troublesome window? Send Oakland View Limited a private message with photos of the hinges and the window, and tell us what it’s doing.
