💔 How can we call ourselves a civilised race when we inflict such unimaginable cruelty on other sentient beings for nothing more than our greed and taste buds?
Animals feel pain, fear, terror and suffering. They experience joy, form bonds, love their babies and want to live, just as we do. They are individuals with their own lives, their own feelings and their own desire to be free from harm.
Yet, as a species, we subject them to horrific abuse, exploitation, confinement and slaughter, all for products we simply want, not products we need to survive.
We take their babies. We deny them freedom. We ignore their suffering. We treat their lives as commodities and their bodies as products. And we justify it all because it is what we have always done, what society accepts, or because we like the taste.
What does that say about us?
Our ability to dominate another living being does not give us the right to do so. Tradition does not make cruelty acceptable. And pleasure can never justify another’s suffering.
The victims of our choices have no voice in the decisions that determine their fate. They cannot ask us to spare them. They cannot plead their case in a language we choose to understand. But their suffering is real, whether we acknowledge it or turn away.
We are not superior because we have the power to exploit them. If anything, our humanity should be measured by how we treat those who are powerless against us.
The greatest tragedy is that so much of this cruelty is entirely unnecessary.
We have the choice to live without contributing to this suffering, yet millions of innocent beings continue to pay with their freedom, their lives and their blood for nothing more than human appetite.
💔 If we truly believe in kindness, compassion and justice, why do we exclude other sentient beings from that compassion simply because they belong to another species?
They are not here for us. They are not ours to exploit. They are not commodities. They are individuals who deserve to live.
Their lives matter. Their suffering matters. And our choices matter.
Please, look beyond what society has taught you to accept. Look at the individual, not the product. Look at the victim, not the meal.
Because compassion means nothing if it only extends to those who look like us.
