Sometimes we’re surprised at Massey Electrics — and today was one of those days.
We visited a property to check whether the hob supply was still suitable for a new hob. There was no power, and on investigation we found the breaker had been damaged due to a previous poor attempt at electrical work, causing it to fail.
We then inspected the isolator and found loose connections and poorly terminated conductors. Worse still, the earth/CPC had not been properly terminated. From what we could see, the earth sleeving wasn’t large enough, so some of the CPC strands had been cut away to make it fit.
We corrected all of these issues, replaced the faulty breaker and restored power — but more importantly, we improved the overall safety of the circuit.
This is a great reminder that electrical work isn’t something to take chances with. Please always use a competent, qualified person for your electrical work.
What looks like a simple job can sometimes uncover some very serious safety issues. ⚡️
