This week, Massey Electrics attended a property after being referred by a local gas engineer who was fitting a new gas hob.
Unfortunately, the electrical installation was in very poor condition and the existing supply even caused the fuse to blow. We were on hand to assess the situation, remove the dangerous electrical issues and carry out the necessary remedial work.
Our customer is now very happy to have their new hob and oven safely up and running.
It’s a great reminder of the dangers that can be hidden behind an oven and kitchen appliances.
We also advised the customer on the benefits of having an EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) carried out, along with the potential benefits of upgrading the existing consumer unit.
When was your property last electrically inspected?

⚡ EICRs — needed or not needed?
Whilst an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is a legal requirement in many rented properties, it isn’t currently a legal requirement for privately owned homes.
However, that doesn’t mean your electrics shouldn’t be checked.
Massey Electrics were recently asked to connect a new hob for a customer. During the work, we found that the circuit breaker was faulty and replaced it.
While inside the consumer unit, we also noticed that the neutral bar had previously had loose connections. These had caused signs of overheating and a small electrical fire.
We checked all the connections within the consumer unit for tightness and advised our customer accordingly.
Thankfully, the issue was spotted before it became something much more serious.
🏠 Even if you privately own your property, we strongly recommend having your electrical installation inspected periodically.
You can’t always see an electrical fault until it becomes dangerous. A professional inspection could identify problems before they turn into a fire or other serious issue.
Don’t wait for something to go wrong — get your electrics checked

Massey Electrics recieved a call from a landlord whom sprung into action the moment they were alerted by their tenant of some concerning electrical issues. First up we diagnosed the cooker switch with loose connections causing a crackling sound and power loss, swiftly rectified with a replacement switch and minor repair to burnt cables. Moving on to the bathroom... the fan isolator was falling to bits and had to be held to make the fan work and the fan itself sounded like its seen better times, both these were change and the fan was also upgraded to a humidity version and provide a better solution to any excess moisture.
We must say using decent brands definitely paves the way to better reliability and we always strive for that and our customers

With another hot day for Massey Electrics, we replaced some worn/broken single outside sockets with these click ip68 rated double sockets. Our customer was having additional pumps installed for their water features and one socket wouldn't cut it. While we were there we replaced some of their outdoor lighting with some much needed upgraded led lights.

Sometimes we’re surprised at Massey Electrics — and today was one of those days.
We visited a property to check whether the hob supply was still suitable for a new hob. There was no power, and on investigation we found the breaker had been damaged due to a previous poor attempt at electrical work, causing it to fail.
We then inspected the isolator and found loose connections and poorly terminated conductors. Worse still, the earth/CPC had not been properly terminated. From what we could see, the earth sleeving wasn’t large enough, so some of the CPC strands had been cut away to make it fit.
We corrected all of these issues, replaced the faulty breaker and restored power — but more importantly, we improved the overall safety of the circuit.
This is a great reminder that electrical work isn’t something to take chances with. Please always use a competent, qualified person for your electrical work.
What looks like a simple job can sometimes uncover some very serious safety issues. ⚡️

While carrying out isolation work at this property, Massey Electrics was asked to investigate an external light that was not working.
Upon inspection, we found that the light had been installed incorrectly. Although a CPC (earth conductor) was present, it had not been connected. Instead, the previous installer had relied on the mortar between the bricks as the earth path, which is unsafe and does not comply with electrical installation standards.
Massey Electrics corrected the installation by connecting the CPC correctly and carried out the appropriate testing to verify the earth continuity and confirm the safety of the installation.

Massey Electrics ⚡
We had the opportunity to borrow and test out this earth leakage detection device today on a property that was experiencing ongoing RCD tripping issues. The entire installation was protected by a single RCD, so every time it tripped, the customer lost all power.
After 23 years as an electrician, I can honestly say this tool has proven its worth. It allowed us to test each circuit individually and overall for earth leakage, quickly identify the problematic circuits without any unnecessary disassembly, and significantly speed up fault finding.
A fantastic bit of kit that will save both time and disruption for our customers.
We at Massey Electrics give it a big 👍.
