After some excellent performances in matches and training, MCC Trojans looked to take their increasing momentum in to their game with Staveley MW on Saturday.

The games between these sides last year produced some close games and this one began in similar vein, with Staveley seeing a lot of the ball early on, but struggling to get beyond Leo in the Trojans defence who blocked numerous attacks. Gradually the Trojans seized the initiative, with strong running up the right from Doug fashioning a couple of chances that Billy was really unlucky not to score from.

The opening goal came from a relaible source, as Tommy picked up a loose ball and rammed home the opener. It was soon two as a great dipping strike from Seth found the net. Trojans were pouring forward at will now, Tommy forcing a great save from the Staveley keeper, with Max on hand to knock in the rebound, before Tommy added another just before half time. Doug was now in goal and made a couple of important saves to keep Staveley out as the half drew to a close.

In to the 2nd half, the momentum stayed with Matlock, Max again on hand to score after a save from the keeper, before gobbling up another chance to complete his hat trick. Casper had been unlucky not to score himself, but was soon rewarded as he cut inside to fire a rocket in to the top corner. Casper then added another after a great goal kick from Billy set him up.

By now, Trojans were up against 2 extra players but the boys worked so hard as a team it was almost impossible to tell. Leo was outstanding at the back all match and behind him, both Isaac and Billy made great saves in goal, as well as showing some great distribution to keep the Trojans attacks going and from another attack a shot struck a defenders hand resulting in a penalty that Max confidently converted.

Staveley's 2 player advantage saw them create some late chances that resulted in a couple of goals, but the game ended fittingly with another goal for Max after more great work from Tommy.

This was a great performance from the whole team, full of personality, effort, resilience and a great amount of skill from all 8 players on the day.

Player of the Week, this week sponsored by Gilkin Tree Care went to Max. Not only did Max score 5 goals, but he lead by example with his effort and desire, a true team player with a first class attitude. Well done to Max and all the Trojans on a great display.

MTJFC u7 Trojans vs Wingerworth Tigers

The U7 Trojans produced their best performance of the season under bright sunshine in Clowne, as they faced Wingerworth Tigers in a lunchtime kick-off. What followed was a simply outstanding display from all nine Trojans, without doubt their finest performance of the season. Teamwork, determination, skill, and, most importantly, nine smiling faces were on show in front of proud parents and coaches.

The Trojans set the tone early with a superb team goal. Isaac made a brilliant save in goal before quickly rolling the ball out to Jaxson, who switched play to Max. Max slipped a perfect pass through to Doug, who squared for Casper to finish, an excellent goal involving all five players.

The pressure continued as the Trojans created chance after chance with exciting attacking football. Tayamo and Tommy both came close before half-time. In midfield, Max was everywhere, tackling, driving forward, and setting the standard for his teammates. Doug and Seth worked tirelessly down the wings, linking play, while Tayamo’s energy up front constantly troubled the Wingerworth defence.

At the back, Jaxson and Leo were as reliable as ever, making crucial, goal-saving challenges when needed. Behind them, Isaac delivered a faultless performance in goal, with excellent handling throughout.

The Trojans remained relentless in the second half and deservedly added a second goal. Max got the goal his performance merited, smashing home from the edge of the box after great work from Casper down the right hand side.

With five minutes remaining, the game was still finely balanced, with all three outcomes possible. Then the Trojans shifted gears. Seth surged down the left to set up Tommy for a composed finish. Soon after, Doug played a long ball down the line, and Tommy beat three defenders before smashing home his second. He quickly completed a brilliant hat-trick with a fine solo effort.

At the other end, Max, now in defence, made a superb late tackle to deny Wingerworth once again.

At the final whistle, the Trojans received a standing ovation from parents and coaches. This week’s Player of the Week, sponsored by Gilkin Tree Care, was Max. His performance was outstanding, courageous, skilful, determined, and capped with a fantastic goal.
Well done to Max and all nine Trojans - BRILLIANT!!!!
