Kitchen taps: supply and fit.
Okay, so I do a lot of supply and fit taps, but this one was not the cheapest, shall we say, but this is what the customer wanted and as usual, the photograph doesn't really do it justice. As it happens, I was also there to replace the basket waste, which you can also see in the photograph. That's the drain part of it, for those that are unaware of what basket waste is. There was a lot of additional plumbing to do underneath the kitchen sink, which I'll probably do in another post.

Toilet repairs.
Okay, so this is less about the actual toilet repair service I offer, which I offer a fixed price on both flush and fill valves, rather than the actual cause of this particular problem.
So as you can see, this customer, like many others, has put something in their system to flush through and keep the toilet clean and hygienic.
Not unusual. However, every time I see these, I cringe, and I advise the customer never to use them again.
There are different makes out there, different products. These particular ones that you pop in never fully dissolve properly. Some of them leave plastic residue behind. As you can see, the result is bits of stuff floating around, stuck to the walls of the system. Invariably, what happens is this stuff breaks off and ends up in your flush and fill valves.
This prematurely kills those valves.
And whilst it keeps me in business, it can become very expensive for yourself.
So my advice, as it would be if I was on site, is: do not use anything in the cistern. If you're gonna use something, use it in the bowl.
There are a couple of things that you can put in the cistern, but I am not going to tell you what they are because, at the end of the day, I would probably still advise not putting anything there.

UPVC window handle replacement
So this is a simple job, yet one that I do frequently get asked to do.
What I didn't realise was that I didn't even have this listed on my list of fixed price jobs.
Well, at some point today that will change, and you'll be able to book in to have either a single window handle changed or multiple handles changed.
Just a point to note that there are obviously different styles out there. There are different colours out there. I will be only sticking with white handle changes, and I will only use the one type of handle that I've used regularly over the years that I've not had any problems with. Unfortunately, if it doesn't match your particular style of handle that you have, you would either have to supply the handle, or unfortunately I wouldn't be able to assist you in locating the matching style that you have.
That being said, unless the handles are directly next to each other, these are very standard-looking handles, and if you wanted a pair changed in, we could change the pair together.

Appliance Valve Supply and Fit
Whilst the service is described as "appliance valve supply and fit", it's not technically an appliance valve that I'm fitting.
However, it is an appliance valve that I'm taking out, and it is a valve or a connector that you can connect an appliance to.
However, the primary difference is that fitting an appliance valve ends up invariably failing or the handle breaking off, as can be seen in the upper part of the image, where the red handle is already broken off, making it impossible to turn.
In addition to this, you tend to find that when connecting the pipe to the end connector, they quite often leak, and if not straight away, then in time.
So basically, I came up with this simple solution of a far superior, far sturdier, much easier to turn on and off valve connection connected to a press-fit feed for the appliance pipe itself.

Downlights. Supply and fit.
I had 2 or 3 of these down lights to fit today ...Sorry that should have been 23 ! 😂
So yeah, been a busy day, and it's probably just as well that the customer booked me in. Initially, the lights were failing one or two at a time in different rooms, so eventually they decided that they're going to change the lot, which they did or should I say I did.
Not only were the lights that I took out not fire-rated, but they were also not IP-rated, so they shouldn't have been in any of the locations that they were.
So I supplied and fitted these rather attractive downlights, which were both IP and fire-rated, which meant they could go in any of the rooms that they needed to go into.
In addition to that, they could change the colour temperature, which meant that if they wanted a warmer temperature rather than a whiter temperature, they could easily change that. They could change the wattage from 5 to 6 W if necessary.
Furthermore, they wanted them in chrome. Now, with these, the bezel changes out so they come as white as standard, and I purchased the chrome which they requested and swapped them all out.
But as you can see from the photograph, quite a lot of the wiring that they had in was burnt out or burning out due to faulty transformers.
Not only that, but the lights that they had were all 50 W bulbs, which were extremely hot and also just burning the electric as well as the wires.
So, as you can imagine, changing to these new downlights will ultimately save them electricity in the long run and potentially their lives.

Toilet repairs
So I've been doing a lot of these over the past few weeks: toilet repairs.
Mainly consisting of new flush and fill valves
So, as you can see from the photograph, in this particular instance there was an old flush valve and an old ball c**k type inlet valve.
Which are replaced with a more modern pair of devices
As with many of my jobs, this is a particularly common request for mr services. Sometimes the customer isn't even aware that they have an issue with the toilet until the United Utilities gets in touch with them and says, "You've got particularly high water usage."
Fix price so the customer knows exactly what they're paying for, what they're gonna get, what they're gonna pay for at the end of the job.

Wow, it seems to be such a long time since I made any regular Facebook and Instagram posts, other than the occasional video just to let people know that I'm still here.

As you can see from the image, this is a key safe, but it's a police-approved key safe. They're a bit more expensive, but they are very well made. I did a supply fit on this recently.
