Some projects are about creating something new. This one was about saving what was already there.
The original retaining wall was over 100 years old, built without a proper footing, and had eventually failed — pushing the grand entrance steps out of line and leaving the whole area twisted and unstable.
Other builders had looked at the project, but replacing everything with new brick was the only option they were willing to offer.
The client wanted to keep the original brickwork and the character it gave the property. So we found a way to make it work.
The entire structure was carefully dismantled, with every original brick individually cleaned, stacked and saved. We then rebuilt the retaining wall from the ground up to modern standards before painstakingly reusing the original bricks.
Same character. Properly built. Ready for another 100 years.
We completed the transformation with new sandstone steps and patio, alongside bespoke horizontal slatted fencing to the rear.
A huge amount of work went into what you see in these photos — particularly the parts you'll never see again beneath the finished job.
