One of the nicest things about living in the Forest of Dean is that people here still genuinely like recommending good local places, good local businesses, and good local days out.

Not because something’s flashy.
Just because it’s reliable, enjoyable, and worth passing on.

That local word-of-mouth still matters.

A very Forest of Dean question for this week…

Have you reached the stage where the garden looks promising, but also slightly like it’s about to become your full-time job?

Because this is usually the point in spring where people notice all the same things at once:

The pots need redoing.
The garden furniture needs cleaning.
The shed needs sorting.
The lawn needs attention.
And there’s always one corner of the garden you’ve been “meaning to deal with” since last summer.

What’s the one room in your house that quietly runs the whole family?

Not the fanciest one.
Not the one you’d show first.
The one that actually does the heavy lifting.

For a lot of people, it’s the kitchen.

The Easter holidays always sound relaxing on paper.

Then real life happens.

You try to plan one nice local day out… and suddenly it involves snacks, spare jumpers, changed plans, a muddy car, and someone asking for food again 14 minutes after leaving the house.

That said, the Forest of Dean does this time of year brilliantly. There are Easter holiday activities running locally, including events at Dean Heritage Centre from 28 March to 12 April 2026, plus wildlife safari dates listed from early April.

Sometimes the best local days are the ones where everyone gets home a bit tired, a bit muddy, and in a much better mood 👍
