Interesting one for today 👀
Customer reported what they believed was a leak under their concrete hallway floor, with both the hallway and dining room carpets completely saturated with water.
After some investigation — and a bit of excavation — I discovered the leak was actually under the wet room floor. The water had been travelling underneath the concrete slab and making its way into both adjoining rooms 🤯
The more I uncovered, the worse it got…
What I found hidden in the concrete was some truly shocking pipework which was a mixture of copper and plastic with plastic fittings / compression fittings 😑
No lagging, no protection from the concrete at all, and fittings buried directly into the slab (picture below) .
Eventually I exposed the culprit pipe and fitting which was a compression coupler 🤦 — which can only be described as a fountain once uncovered 💦 (video in comments)
The damaged section was cut out and replaced with new pipework and copper fittings, leaving the system safe and watertight again 👍
Definitely one of those jobs where the investigation tells a very different story from what you first expect!
