Waiting on your planning decision? If your local council asks for an "extension of time," don't panic! It’s very common and often means your officer is actively working toward an approval, rather than refusing it due to time limits.

Here’s what you need to know:
* Why it happens: Delays in consultations, ongoing amendments or heavy officer workloads.
* Should you agree? Usually yes, if it helps reach a positive outcome.
* When to reconsider: If delays are excessive with no meaningful progress, or if a refusal is clearly inevitable. In these cases, forcing a decision allows you to appeal or revise.

Every application is unique, so consider whether the extra time will actually improve your chances!
