🌿 That’s a wrap on another busy week… and a VERY busy month! 🌿

The tools are packed away, the vans are parked up, and for once the alarm clocks are being firmly ignored! 😴😂

It’s been an incredibly busy August for the Hockham & Jones team, looking after our fantastic regular customers, tackling garden transformations, trimming more hedges than we care to count and removing what feels like several forests’ worth of green waste! 🌳✂️

So, with the Bank Holiday weekend upon us, we’re taking a well-earned few days off to recharge the batteries — ours, not just the Husqvarna ones! 🔋😂

A huge thank you, as always, to all of our customers for keeping us so busy and for your continued support.

We hope you all have a fantastic Bank Holiday weekend. ☀️🍻🌿

A good layer of bark can make a surprisingly big difference! 🌱

We’ve been busy spreading plenty of bark mulch around these borders — and judging by the size of the pile, we certainly got our steps in with the wheelbarrow! 😂💪

As well as giving beds and borders a smart, finished appearance, bark mulch has some really useful benefits:

🌿 Helps suppress w**ds and reduces ongoing maintenance
💧 Retains moisture in the soil — increasingly important during our dry summers
🌡️ Helps protect plant roots from extremes of temperature
🌱 Gradually breaks down and adds organic matter to the soil

Some gardens just make you stop and admire them for a moment… 🌿☀️

Beautifully shaped topiary, roses still providing a splash of late-summer colour, and everything looking rather smart in the sunshine.

Regular garden maintenance isn’t always about dramatic before-and-after transformations. Often, it’s the consistent pruning, shaping, w**ding and attention to detail that keeps an established garden looking its best throughout the seasons.

Although we’re fairly sure those topiary shapes are now judging the rest of the garden… 👀😂

Another busy Monday for the Hockham & Jones team, out and about looking after our regular customers. 🌿✂️

One of today’s jobs was giving this roadside frontage a much-needed tidy-up — cutting everything back, sharpening things up and making sure it looks smart and well cared for from the road.

There’s something very satisfying about a good frontage tidy… after all, it’s the bit everyone sees first! 👀

Another busy day for Hockham & Jones 🌿

We kicked off this morning with some commercial grounds maintenance, keeping everything tidy and well presented, before heading off to visit two of our recently signed-up regular customers this afternoon.

On today’s list was a hornbeam hedge cut ✂️ followed by shaping up a rather enthusiastic shrub that had clearly decided it no longer believed in boundaries! 😂🌳

A good trim, a bit of shaping and order was restored.

We remembered the before AND after photos this time too… which, given our recent track record, might be the biggest achievement of the day! 📸😂

Another satisfying day looking after a mix of commercial sites and residential gardens across South Norfolk.

Another busy Monday for Hockham & Jones, out and about looking after our regular maintenance customers. 🌿☀️

This morning included a bit of ivy clearing at a customer’s new property. All going nicely until a rather well-camouflaged toad suddenly jumped out and nearly caused an unscheduled early finish. 🐸😂

Thankfully, once we’d both recovered from the shock (me more than him), he was safely moved out of harm’s way and I carried on!

You never quite know what you’re going to find when you start clearing an overgrown corner of a garden. 🌱

Busy Saturday for Hockham & Jones! 🌿☀️

We spent the full day with one of our new regular customers, continuing to bring their lovely garden back under control.

Today’s main focus was the large bed at the front of the property — plenty to work through and, thankfully, lots of opportunity for one of my favourite gardening activities… selective w**ding! 🌱😂

There’s something strangely satisfying about working your way through a big established bed, carefully deciding what stays, what goes, and occasionally staring at something for a few seconds thinking, “I’m fairly sure you weren’t invited…” 🤔🌿

I was so busy getting stuck in that I completely forgot the before and after photos. 🤦‍♂️

Fortunately, I did remember to photograph arguably the most important part of the day… a lovely homemade scone and a cup of tea! ☕️😋

Excellent customer hospitality — I could definitely get used to this regular gardening arrangement! 😂

Back again soon to continue working our way through the garden.

Another busy Friday for the Hockham & Jones team! 🌿💪

Today we divided and conquered…

🌳 Jon was over in Diss, completing a garden restoration for a new customer. A great transformation and, even better, we’ll now be returning bi-weekly to keep everything looking its best. Another garden officially joining the H&J maintenance round! 🙌

🌱 Rich was back with one of our regular customers, continuing the clearance of an overgrown border. Today was less about what you could see above ground and more about what was lurking underneath… roots. Lots and lots of roots. 😬

Dig. Find root. Pull root. Discover it’s attached to an even bigger root. Repeat for several hours. 😂

Not necessarily the most glamorous side of gardening, but getting those roots out properly now means we can give the border a fresh start and make the next stage much easier.

A productive end to another very busy week — and two more gardens heading firmly in the right direction. 🌿
