Replaced these non-IP-rated halogen bathroom lights with the correct IP-rated downlights. The old ones were a fire hazard and not waterproof—definitely not suitable for a bathroom! A reminder to always use the right fittings and hire professionals to get the job done safely and correctly. In this case, the landlord had the tenant install them, which led to the wrong type being used and a failed EICR inspection. Don’t cut corners when it comes to electrical safety

I was called out to investigate a loss of power. Upon inspection, I discovered that the installation was in a highly dangerous condition. The main 60A fuse had been improperly bypassed using a thin strand of copper wire, which poses a severe fire and electrocution risk. This makeshift connection not only compromises the circuit’s protective function but also increases the likelihood of overheating and catastrophic failure. The installation was immediately deemed unsafe, and appropriate isolation and reporting measures were taken to prevent any further risk.
