Birds nesting on a roof can cause all kinds of issues, especially if they are nesting around an outlet on a flat roof.

As you can see from the photos we took during an inspection, the debris left by the birds such as small bones, leaves twigs and other debris had caused a major blockage on the outlet. This led to leaks around the adjacent flashings and vents as the water was not able to escape.

Never undermine the damage that moss can cause to valleys and tiled roofs in general.

We carried out an assessment recently where there was a large build-up of moss on our clients roof valleys. This had resulted in water breaching the cement verges on either side of the valley, causing water ingress.

Removal of the moss and re-pointing of the verges was recommended to the client.

A clear indication of capillary action on these asbestos cement sheets on a commercial building in South London.

The green marks around the filler on the pan of each sheet is a good indicator that water is tracking on the underside of the sheet and causing water ingress internally. There is also a large void between the poorly installed box gutter and the original upstand.
