On 14th October, Potter R***r welcomed Constructing Excellence Essex Club (CEEC) to Lexden Gardens in Colchester, alongside Kind & Company and Essex Housing.

Guests joined us for a tour of the site, including a look inside the listed Block 1, before heading to the Hospital Arms for networking drinks, kindly sponsored by Kind & Co.

Paul Denny, our Deputy Managing Director, led guests around Lexden Gardens and talked through the scheme’s history and its progress to date, alongside colleagues from Essex Housing and Kind & Co.

𝟱𝟬+ 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. 𝟭𝟭𝟰 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟯 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. 𝟱𝟬𝟬+ 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗞.

We support commercial occupiers through every stage of their lease, from acquisition surveys through to dilapidations and strip out.

When a Cambridge technology business took its first suite at Vision Park, Histon, our report found the roof had reached the end of its serviceable life. It sat outside the client’s demise, but not outside their service charge. Because we reported while heads of terms were still open, the client could negotiate a cap on that liability before signing.

They have since come back to us three times: four lettings, with 20,448 sq ft recorded in schedules of condition over two years.

On Friday 23rd October, Director Toby Martin-Jay and Project Directors Simon Foulkes and Tom Poulton will be at the Love To Rent Awards at The Londoner, Leicester Square, with our Partnerships Director Claire Flowers on the judging panel for a fourth year. On Thursday 8th October, we hosted our latest 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗗𝗮𝘆, bringing together apprentices from across our offices for an afternoon shaped around their own experiences and ideas.

The afternoon covered three sessions:

- Sam Murphy, Quantity Surveyor, opened with his own apprenticeship journey, sharing the highs and lows and what he wishes he had known at the start, before apprentices split into mixed-year groups to map out their own experiences.

- In “What Do You Actually Want?”, we shared where we think we may be getting things wrong and asked our apprentices to correct us, covering projects, training and study, mentoring, social events, wellbeing and pay.

- We walked through our job description framework and how progression works in practice, with each apprentice mapping their current role against the next level and setting one development action for the next six months.

We know our employees are our most valuable asset, and listening to them is a big part of investing in their development. The honest feedback shared will help shape how our Apprenticeship Programme continues to grow.

We’ve delivered 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗿, 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 for 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻, supporting the refurbishment of 𝟮𝟮 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 across the university’s Bloomsbury Campus. The works were delivered with contractor GD Construction (St. Albans) Limited and M&E specialist 𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱.

Refurbishment works have now completed across Foster Court, the Christopher Ingold Building and the Medical Sciences and Anatomy Building. The scope included redecoration, new writing boards and acoustic panels, upgraded AV technology, furniture replacement and accessibility improvements.

The project completed in September 2026, welcoming students and staff back to modern, more inclusive teaching environments for the new academic year.

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲.

On 2nd October, employees from our Cambridge office joined our client Cambridge City Council Community Engagement Team for a conservation day at the Ascension Burial Ground on All Souls Lane.

One of the most biodiverse sites in Cambridge, the burial ground is the final resting place of around 50 people featured in the Oxford Dictionary of Biography. Protecting sites like this helps preserve both local heritage and biodiversity.

The team spent the morning cutting back overgrowth, clearing graves, renovating benches and railings, and creating new habitats for birds, amphibians and reptiles. The council team were really pleased with how much was achieved, and our team finished the day with a tour of the graves of some of the site’s notable residents.

October marks Dyslexia Awareness Month, an opportunity to learn more about dyslexia and recognise the strengths that dyslexic thinkers bring to our workplaces and teams.

Dyslexia is a common learning difference that affects around one in ten people in the UK. 𝗗𝘆𝘀𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗮 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. While it can affects how the brain processes language, many dyslexic people bring valuable strengths in visual thinking, problem-solving and spotting the bigger picture, skills that are highly valued across our industry.
