Daniel Nash, Head of Vehicle Carriers, was quoted in the New York Times article "China Is Flooding the World With Cars" discussing the big increase in overseas sales for gasoline-powered models.

"The incentive to build more ships is clear. The cost per day for an automaker to hire a car-carrying ship has soared to $105,000, from $16,000 two years ago, Mr. Nash said. BYD is spending close to $100 million apiece for the construction of what will be the six largest car carriers ever built. Most of the vessels are scheduled for completion in the next three years."

So far in 2023, the top 10 biggest spenders on second hand bulkers have spent a collective USD 1.58 billion on 51 vessels. However the top 10 tanker owners have doubled that, spending a total of USD 3.66 billion on 90 second hand vessels, reports VesselsValue Content Analyst Rebecca Galanopoulos Jones.

The top two biggest spenders on second hand bulkers and tankers, Golden Ocean Group and Scorpio Tankers respectively, have already spent over USD 1.1 billion together in 2023.
