Why Do I Suddenly Have So Many House Flies?

If you're suddenly dealing with lots of flies, there's ALWAYS a reason they're there.

Flies are attracted to sources of food and breeding, particularly rotting organic waste. That could be an overflowing bin, food waste or another nearby source.

Rather than simply dealing with the adult flies, identifying where they're coming from is an important part of effective pest control.

Find the source, deal with the cause and you can tackle the problem properly.

The Simple Fix for Fruit Flies πŸͺ°

Fruit flies can quickly turn into a kitchen nuisance, especially when overripe fruit is left sitting around.

The good news? Sometimes the simplest solution is the most effective.

Check fruit bowls, food waste and other sources of decomposing organic material. Removing the source can help break the breeding cycle and prevent the problem from continuing.

Tiny Flies Around Your Sink? Here's Why

You could be dealing with drain flies. Damp, dirty areas around drains can provide the ideal conditions for them to breed.

Keeping drains clean and clear, along with removing standing water and clearing blocked gutters, can help remove the conditions these pests need.

The Bin Bag Mistake That Attracts Flies

An open bin bag, overflowing bin or food waste left sitting around can quickly attract house flies.

Flies are drawn to rotting organic waste, which can also provide a place to feed and breed.

Keeping bins sealed and removing waste regularly can help prevent fly problems before they start.

DIY wasp nest removal is one of the most common ways people end up stung, repeatedly.

Wasps don't just attack the person who disturbs the nest, they release a pheromone that signals the rest of the colony to swarm. Without the right protective gear and knowledge of how they behave, it can go wrong fast.

A professional doesn't just spray and go. They assess the nest, the access, and the risk to people and pets before treating it properly the first time.

Found a nest? Leave it to Pestforce, not a can of shop-bought spray!

Once it drops below 13Β°C, wasps start disappearing, but not all of them...

The nest has already made next year's queens, and instead of dying off like the rest, they're now looking for somewhere warm to hide for winter. That's often inside your home. Lofts, sheds, wall cavities, anywhere quiet and dry.

So if you spot wasps indoors in autumn with no nest around, this is usually why. And whichever queen picks your property will be back in spring to start one.

Pest Control Expert Natalie explains what to look out for.

Queen Wasps build the first part of their nest completely alone.

No workers yet, so she wakes up, finds a quiet spot, and starts constructing the first cells herself. She lays the first eggs, forages for food, and defends the nest single-handed until they hatch. Only once there are workers does she stop leaving for good.

If you deal with a wasp nest most years it is quite likely you have a queen overwintering nearby.

If wasps are a recurring problem at your property, Pestforce can help you get ahead of it before the nest builds.

Every wasp you see right now is on borrowed time except one.

The colony dies off as autumn sets in, but a handful of new queens mate and go looking for a quiet spot to overwinter. Loft, shed, wall cavity, log pile. They'll sit there until the temperature holds at 13Β°C, then start the whole thing again.

Natalie explains it in the video. If you've got an active nest now is still the time to deal with it.

Don't panic if you've noticed an increase in moth activity in your home. Pestforce are here to help you reclaim your space. Being stung by a wasp during wasp season is fairly common - but never pleasant.

Wasps carry venom in their stings. This venom can be life-threatening to people who are allergic to the poison. This allergic reaction is known as anaphylaxis.

If you or someone you know is suffering with anaphylaxis, call 999 immediately (even if they start to feel better). More details on what to do can be found here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/anaphylaxis/

Whilst wasp season may be winding down now, if you've spotted wasps a little too close for comfort, or a wasp nest, please give us a call on 020 8088 0356 or visit https://www.pest-force.co.uk/SouthWestLondon/
