Black Chokeberry is deciduous shrub that grows 3 to 6 feet tall. It is tolerant of most soils and climates. Flowers are white blooming in spring followed in early autumn by small dark purple, edible fruits.

The plants tolerate a wide pH range and will also grow well in heavy clay soils. Water needs are minimal. Although fruit production is best when grown in full sun, partial shade is also tolerated. The fruits are edible and have an apple and sweet flavour.
