Repainting the original sash windows in this beautiful Victorian home yesterday in Stoke Newington. 🪟 A property we first refurbished the windows 7 years ago. It’s always a privilege to return to past projects and maintain the standard we’re known for.

Traditional timber sash windows are designed to last for generations when properly maintained. A thorough preparation and quality paint system not only refreshes their appearance but protects against weathering, rot and deterioration.

Period homes are defined by their proportions, materials and craftsmanship. Even small changes can have a big impact on how they feel overall. 🏡

🪟 uPVC sash windows are often chosen for practical reasons, but visually they sit very differently on a traditional facade. The proportions, finishes and detailing rarely match the original design, which can subtly alter the character, especially in older or visibly historic homes.

📐 Modern glazing can also affect sightlines.
Heavier glazing bars and bulkier profiles change the delicate balance of traditional sash windows, which were designed with slim bars and fine detailing.

🪵 Many period properties still have original timber windows that were built to last and to be repaired. Full replacement isn’t always necessary, careful restoration can retain the craftsmanship that makes the house special.

🌿 With the right approach, performance and character can coexist. Discreet double glazing, draught-proofing and restoration improve warmth and efficiency while keeping the original look intact.
