NEW: The Warm Homes Loan Scheme

The Government has announced a new scheme to make low-carbon home upgrades more affordable to finance. Here's what we know so far.

The Warm Homes Loan Scheme is expected to open to the public in September. It's designed to lower the cost of borrowing for low-carbon improvements through a government-backed grant, which is intended to reduce the interest on your loan by around 5 percentage points.

What it's expected to cover:

- Air source heat pumps — loans up to £20,000

- Ground source heat pumps — up to £35,000

- Solar panels — up to £15,000

- Battery storage — up to £15,000

- Biomass boilers, for rural properties — up to £20,000

Who it's for: homeowners, and landlords borrowing in a personal capacity, with no income cap. Loans are provided by FCA-authorised lenders, and the work must be carried out by an MCS-certified installer.

Worth noting: the scheme covers low-carbon technologies rather than insulation, windows or roofing, and the final details are still being confirmed ahead of launch.

Helpful update from Energy Saving Trust about the UK Government’s plans for low and zero-interest loans to help homeowners upgrade their homes.

The idea is that loans could help pay for improvements like:
• Solar panels
• Draught proofing
• Heat pumps
• Smart heating controls

According to Energy Saving Trust, upgrades like these could reduce energy bills by up to £850 a year 💷

📊 The Energy Saving Genie Free Grant Checker was updated on 26 February 2026 — with new features now available

The checker now includes all Energy Performance Certificates issued up to 31 January 2026, helping us match households with the right heating and insulation grants based on their property and eligibility.

You can now also register your interest for upcoming support, including:
• The Warm Homes Plan
• Heat pump grants through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme

Our free grant checker also includes signposting for the new Warm Homes Local Grant for insulation and heating upgrades (administered by councils).

With ECO4 and the Great British Insulation Scheme now closing, new funding programmes are starting to take their place.

📢 The Warm Homes Plan has been announced

The UK Government has announced the Warm Homes Plan, committing £15 billion of public investment to upgrade up to 5 million homes and lift 1 million families out of fuel poverty by 2030.

It includes an offer for everyone 👇
✔️ Grants and loans to make it easier for homeowners to install heat pumps, solar panels and batteries
✔️ Direct support for home upgrades for people on low incomes and in fuel poverty
✔️ New rules to ensure landlords invest in upgrades to cut bills for renters and social tenants

📘 What the Warm Homes Plan is

Published in January 2026, the Warm Homes Plan is a major UK Government strategy designed to cut household energy bills, reduce fuel poverty and make homes warmer and more energy efficient.

🎯 Key goals

🏠 Upgrade up to 5 million homes by 2030
💷 Reduce energy bills long-term through efficiency and low-carbon tech
💚 Lift up to 1 million families out of fuel poverty

🛠 What the plan includes

💷 Free or heavily subsidised upgrades for low-income households
