From Dated Bathroom to Japanese Sanctuary

What started as a tired, old-fashioned bathroom became one of our favourite projects to date.

This was our first Japandi-inspired bathroom, and we absolutely loved the journey.

Working closely with the homeowners, we learned so much about Japanese bathroom culture and the thinking behind these beautifully calming spaces.

Did you know that traditional Japanese bathrooms are designed with separate wet and dry zones?

🚿 First, you shower and wash.
🛁 Then, you enjoy a relaxing soak in the bath.

What inspired us most was the philosophy behind it. In Japan, the bathroom is more than just a functional room—it's a place to slow down, relax, and disconnect from the stresses of everyday life.

Inspired by this approach, we transformed an outdated bathroom into a calming Japandi retreat featuring a deep soaking bath, natural materials, and a layout designed around comfort and wellbeing.

The result?

✅ A more peaceful space
✅ Better functionality
✅ Timeless design
✅ A true sanctuary within the home

We love learning from our clients, and this project introduced us to a completely different way of thinking about bathrooms.

It's safe to say this won't be our last Japandi bathroom.

🤔 What do you think?

Do you see your bathroom as a practical space, or somewhere to relax and unwind at the end of the day?

Rethinking Spaces. Building Smarter.

Sometimes adding value isn't about adding more space—it's about using existing space better.

When we first discussed this project, the homeowners felt that one family bathroom was enough. They weren't convinced that creating a master ensuite would justify the investment.

After reviewing the layout, we saw an opportunity.

By removing the existing staircase and completely rethinking the floor plan, we transformed unused space into a private master ensuite with direct access from the bedroom.

✅ Better flow
✅ More privacy
✅ Improved day-to-day living
✅ Added property value

This is a great example of how smart design can completely change the way a home works without extending its footprint.

What would you choose?

🏠 One family bathroom
🚿 A family bathroom + master ensuite
