It’s always satisfying seeing a project come together.

When we first walked onto this site, it was still very much a building site. Fast forward a few weeks, and it’s now almost ready to welcome its first customers.

Projects like this are never just about installing cables or fitting lights. They involve working alongside other trades, adapting as the fit-out evolves and making sure everything comes together at the right time.

One of the things I enjoy most about commercial projects is seeing all of those individual pieces finally become a finished space. The lighting, power, emergency systems and final details disappear into the background—which is exactly how it should be. If people notice the atmosphere rather than the electrical installation, we’ve done our job well.

A huge thank you to everyone involved. It’s been great to be part of another business creating a fantastic new space, and I wish the owners every success when the doors officially open.

The best lighting installations are the ones you don’t notice… until you switch them on.

When people see a finished bathroom like this, they usually notice the tiles, the fittings and the lighting effects.

What they don’t see is the planning that made it possible.

For this project, every concealed lighting detail had to be considered before a single tile was fixed.

✔️ Cable routes were planned and installed during the first fix.
✔️ Aluminium LED profiles were positioned in close coordination with the bathroom installer before the walls were tiled.
✔️ RGBW LED strips were fitted only after the tiling was complete, ensuring a clean finish with no visible fixings or compromises.
✔️ The entire lighting system is integrated into a KNX building automation system, allowing the client to control scenes, colours and brightness throughout the home.

Projects like this are never the work of one trade alone. Achieving a seamless result depends on good communication, careful planning and close cooperation throughout the build.

The technology should disappear into the design, leaving nothing but clean lines, subtle lighting and an effortless user experience.

That’s what we enjoy creating.

If you were building your forever home today…

…what would you include before the walls were plastered?

Most people immediately think about adding more sockets, but that’s usually the easiest part to change later.

The things worth planning from the beginning are the ones hidden behind the walls.

I’d be thinking about network cabling for reliable Wi-Fi throughout the house, spare capacity in the consumer unit for future upgrades, provisions for solar panels and battery storage, an EV charger, outdoor lighting, CCTV, smart heating controls and enough wiring to allow the home to adapt over the next 20 years.

Technology moves quickly, but a well-designed electrical installation should be ready for whatever comes next.

As electricians, we’re often asked, “What would you do if it was your own house?”

The answer is simple: I’d install everything that’s difficult or expensive to add later—even if I wasn’t planning to use it immediately.

So here’s my question…

If you were building your forever home, what electrical feature would you definitely include?

Not every electrical project starts inside a house.

This bespoke timber-clad building began as an empty shell. From the first fix wiring through to the final commissioning, every stage of the electrical installation was carefully planned to ensure the finished space looked as good at night as it does during the day.

The exterior lighting wasn’t chosen simply to illuminate the walls—it was positioned to enhance the natural timber cladding, create depth, improve safety around the building and provide a warm, welcoming appearance after dark.

It’s these details that often go unnoticed, but they make a huge difference to how a property feels once the sun goes down.

Whether we’re working on a luxury garden room, a home office, an outbuilding or a complete new build, our aim is always the same: combine practical electrical engineering with lighting that complements the building rather than competes with it.

Every project is different. Every installation is designed around the client, the building and how the space will actually be used.

What do you think makes the biggest difference to an outdoor space after dark—lighting, landscaping or architecture?

Have you ever switched on an LED light only to notice it flickering?

In many cases, the bulb isn’t actually the problem.

Here are a few things you can check before replacing it:

💡 Is it connected to a dimmer?
Many LED lamps require LED-compatible dimmers. Older dimmers designed for halogen bulbs often don’t work well with modern LEDs.

💡 Is it a good-quality bulb?
Very cheap LED lamps can flicker because of poor internal electronics. Choosing a reputable brand usually provides better performance and a longer lifespan.

💡 Does it happen with one bulb or several?
If only one light flickers, try replacing the lamp first. If several lights on the same circuit are affected, there may be another cause.

💡 Have you noticed loose switches or fittings?
A loose lamp, damaged fitting or poor electrical connection can cause intermittent flickering and should be checked promptly.

💡 Is the flicker constant or occasional?
Occasional flickering can have a simple explanation. Persistent flickering should always be investigated by a qualified electrician.

A small problem today can often prevent a larger repair tomorrow.

Have you ever had an LED light that kept flickering? What was the cause?

What’s the one tool you genuinely couldn’t work without?

Mine is the C.K RedLine VDE CombiCutter 3.

I’ve tried plenty of side cutters over the years, but this is the one that’s permanently in my pocket.

For domestic work it just makes sense:

🔹 Side cutters
🔹 1.5 mm² & 2.5 mm² cable st****er
🔹 3.5 mm pattress screw cutter
🔹 Copper bending anvil

It saves me constantly swapping between tools, especially when changing sockets, switches and lighting accessories all day.

I’m always interested to see what other electricians rely on.

If you could only keep ONE hand tool in your pouch (apart from a screwdriver 😄), what would it be and why?

Not looking for the most expensive or the newest—just the one that earns its place every day.

✨ It's often the smallest details that make the biggest difference.

Lighting controls are something we use every day, yet they're often overlooked when designing a home.

For this project, we installed premium solid brass Buster + Punch toggle switches, chosen to complement the interior design while providing a satisfying, high-quality feel every time they're used.

Electrical accessories don't have to be purely functional. When carefully selected and professionally installed, they become part of the architecture of the home.

At Nyxion, we work with homeowners, architects and interior designers to deliver electrical installations that combine performance with exceptional attention to detail.

What finish would you choose for your home—Brass, Black, Stainless Steel or Smoked Bronze?
